Summary
Dark magic is forbidden at Zodiac Academy. That’s why I hide it so well. But now, I’m supposed to mentor Darius Acrux, the son of the most ruthless dragon shifter in Solaria. If he’s caught using blood magic, he’ll lose his claim to the throne. The problem is? Our families are up to something, and we’re determined to find out what. No matter what dark power we must turn to....
Welcome to Zodiac Academy, where your star sign defines your destiny. As the Fae of the future, you will soon learn the merciless way to claim your power. Life among the vampires, shifters, and sirens is no easy ride, but if you can make it through your exams, you might just be able to harness your inner strength and earn your place among the elite.
This is a prequel novella set five years before Zodiac Academy: The Awakening, the first book in the Zodiac Academy series.

Novella that explains soo much!
This is the novella that explains where is all starts from. I am new to to zodiac academy and I’m hooked already. The origins is a sneak into Darius and Orion.
Loved listening to Jakes voice, could listen to him all day!

A Worthy Novella Introduction
If you are enamoured with this series as I am, having Jake portray the story of Darius and Orion is utter perfection!

Sneak Peak into their lives before the Twins!
I was so excited to see listen to this book and get a sneak peak and the heirs and Orion before the Twins arrived at Zodiac to see what their lives were like. I loved listening to their Awakening and how it went I also feel like I understand Orion and Darius more after everything that happened.
Despite just being a novella, Jake put his all into telling the story and making it the best reading experience possible. I full enjoyed listening to his voice and the emotion behind these important scenes that make the men who they are.
The Zodiac Academy series is one of my all time favourites and each book just makes it better and better even a small novella such as this. It was still packed full of intrigue, drama and surprises constantly flying at you from all directions. As the annoyingly over-sized iguana known as Lionel is involved it means that there is a lot of pain and trauma happens. We get a new view on just how evil and how far Lionel will go to gain what he wants.

Loved returning to ZA but it is short!
I needed some more of ZA whilst waiting for the book #9. It is from Darius and Orion’s perspectives only. Loved it but I was disappointed it was only 2h22. I want more!

Do not read this until end of book 3
I started zodiac academy with this book and I wish I would have read the main series in publication order rather than chronological order. This book reveals more than you probably want to know before you have even met our characters. This is better as a book to enhance what you already have learned in the series. So I suggest reading after book 3.

ZA 0.5: Fills in some blanks…
If you’re curious about the events that kept Lance from his dream pit ball career, his guardian bond to Darius, and his sister, Clara’s, fall from grace - this will satisfy you.
Great narration!

love it
I absolutely love the narration for this book Jake did an amazing job bringing this story to life for us. I love how he was able to show Orion the way he was before the rest of the series how we know him to be. This book gives such an amazing insight into the events before the ZA world we know and love❤️❤️

Great Prequel
While you eventually learn about all the information presented in the book in the actual series, it is still a great way to learn about Orion and Darius. It goes more into depth of the night they got their bond and the night Lance’s sister died.

This book is the prequel Novella to the Zodiac Academy. If you haven’t started this series, this book is a great place to start. It is not required to read before you start the main series, but you gain insight of the pivotal point in Darius & Lance’s (who are the two main men in the series) lives.
Seeing how these two ended up where they are at the start of Zodiac Academy Awakening helps you to better understand these two character’s attitudes. And this story might be helpful for later books as well. When I first read ZA1 I accidently skipped over this prequel since I first read book 1 as a recommendation from Amazon. But looking back, I think I would have liked to have this understanding from these events that occurred 5 years before the twins come to Zodiac Academy.
Definitely a must listen to series! I loved hearing Jake as the narrator for this book. It was so well done!
