About this listen

Pretty sure I was a serial killer in my past life.
Because karma is kicking my ass in this one.
Everything was copasetic. I was coasting on the wave of life… until a gnarly swell pulled me under, and I washed ashore to a nightmare. A nightmare there was no waking from.
So I packed my shit and moved all the way to the other side of the country—to the only place someone was willing to give me a second chance.
I came to swim, and though I’m on the team, I don’t want to be Elite. These bros are exactly like the ones I left behind, and I’m not stupid enough to get betrayed again.
But then karma shows up and laughs right in my face.
I slept with my coach’s daughter.
Because of course I did.
And though she calls to me like a siren, that night was just a distraction. A one-time thing.
Until she shows up at Daddy’s pool as the assistant coach. Now the very girl I can’t get off my mind is the one just declared off-limits.
Naturally, my heart decides it can’t beat without her jade stare, sassy mouth, and car that cruises so slow it uses a calendar as a speedometer.
Now I’m at the top of Coach’s crap list, and everything I left in Cali comes knocking at my door. With Landry’s safety on the line, I won’t just roll over and take it. This time, I’ll put up a fight.
There’s no telling what I’ll do or how far I’ll go to make sure Landry isn’t punished for standing by my side. When things get dangerous, I know this wildcard can’t play this game alone.
Because even if trusting people doesn’t come easy… loving her does.

Wildcard is a college sports romance novel that can be listened to as a standalone.

Blurred lines

Blurred lines with this couple, the assistant coach should be forbidden however this Alpha can’t resist. They make a great team. There’s a lot of action that will hook you from the start. A brilliant performance.

Hot swimmer summer continues!

Landry & Rush's pairing wasn't teased/hinted at as much in previous books as we had with the couples in books 3 & 4, but they delivered just as fun of a romance!

Our MMC, Rush, has newly transferred to Westbroke after tragedy under mysterious circumstances struck at his former university. Before transferring he sneaks into the Westbroke pool only to encounter Landry, who immediately gives him the whats-what. They have a steamy encounter, but little does Rush know that he will soon see Landry again as she is the new assistant coach for the Westbroke Elite swim team...oh and she's also the Head Coach's daughter!

This series is just so entertaining to listen to on audio because not only do the narrators always smash it every time, but the suspense and character backstories are always different.

What never changes though are the core tropes we know and love in this series of:
-Boy obsessed
-Protective MMC
-Found family
-Fantastic spice
-Empowered FMCs

The Bros are back.

Everytime I listen to a Westbrook Elite book I get more sucked into their world. Great group of returning characters.

Each couple gets their own epic romance with dangers to face.

Filled with humour, angst and steam. I can't wait for our next couple.

I loved Rush immediately and Landry too. They were so amazing together. I loved how fiercely they fell and how quickly. It was a great story. I loved the drama and the angst. This series is a favorite and I am completely obsessed.. this one is definitely one of the favorites in the series though.

Cecily Foster and Gavin McAllister were so amazing. I loved how well they did. The characters were spot on!

Whoa

What a wildcard this turned out to be. I truly adored Jason Rush and Landry Resch together. There was a lot of tension and angst here, Rush's past comes back to haunt him as he starts a new life with the Elite. And falling fast and hard for the coach's daughter puts a target on her back too. I really love this series.

Fantastic Story & Listen🎧 Heartfelt & Steamy!

It is great to be back in Cambria Hebert’s “Westbrook Elite” world again for another amazing novel, a sports romance and wow get a fan ready because she turned up the heat for this one. Each book stands on its own in this series, but I recommend enjoying them in order written because the characters are interconnected and appear in each other’s books and knowing their backstory adds more depth and seeing them again is like seeing an old friend. That said, this fifth book is Jason Rush and Landry Resch’s story, both recent additions to the “Elite”, both coming with their own secrets and baggage. Their first encounter was a steamy one meeting while he was checking out the school and she was visiting her father, who is the swim team’s head coach. Landry transfers to Westbrook after injuring her shoulder, and her father made her an assistant coach. We learn later on that the injury was not the only reason she left Ohio to go live with her dad. Rush was not expecting to see Landry again, and vice versa, but they still held that fierce attraction to each other. Despite her being off limits as the coach’s daughter, he had to have her, and she had to have him. Then Rush’s past comes back to haunt him, a past he is still trying to come to grips with. Landry stands by his side and so does Lars, his roommate and best friend and, to Rush’s surprise, so does the team. I loved the camaraderie amongst the team members, as well as the friendship bond between Lars and Rush. There is never a dull moment in this book, the story has a lot of layers and the writing, plot and world building is fantastic, as are the character growth and development. This fast-moving story has drama, angst, twists and turns, heartfelt emotions, and steamy romance. Cambria Hebert, thank you for another amazing story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 Cecily Foster and Gavin McAllister were the perfect cast to bring these characters to life, doing so with a complete understanding of who they were portraying, giving each a voice that was fitting. I loved how they took each role and made it their own, sounding believable and just as I imagined the characters would sound. Foster nailed it as Landry, grasping every aspect of her personality, from her fierceness and to her strength and caring side. McAllister did the same for Rush and was spot on with his personality, from his vulnerable side to bossy Dom side. Both were fantastic performing the roles of all the secondary and side characters, too. They set the right tone for the story, captured all the characters’ emotions and had you feeling them all. These entertaining storytellers are a pleasure to listen to and their performance elevates this already amazing story to another level. Thanks for another fabulous listen.

My Thoughts on Wildcard

This book was intense and emotional and crazy good. There was also a whole murder mystery to figure out. And of course it had to involve the least liked member of Elite. But I sure did love the effect Landry had on Rush aka Jason. They were so good together and their chemistry was explosive from their very first meeting. I loved how incredibly supportive she was of him. And, at least to me, it seemed obvious why it was so easy to believe in him, but it was a shame what he had to go through before Landry and the Elite team came into his life. Some aspects of the story weren’t surprising but then there were some I didn’t see coming at all. This author has done that well with this series. The narrators were also excellent. I loved both Rush and Landry’s voices and I even appreciated the female narrator’s attempts at a Swedish accent for Lars. I look forward to continuing this series.

Landry & Rush!

Yes, this is what I love. A good romantic suspense, sports romance that has something I can sink my teeth into! This series is fabulous, each book being able to stand on it's own, but has interconnecting characters creating that feeling of family. Meet the newest team member, Jason Rush. Now part of Westbrook Elite after being accused of murdering his best friend's sister. Starting over sounds like a good plan, right? Of course right out of the gate, he has a one night stand with Landry, who turns out to be the coach's daughter. Now decisions have to be made, keep seeing her or not? Accept the Elite team as family? Hope his past doesn't follow him? Jason has a lot of obstacles, and finding his place is not easy. Cambria Hebert packs this full of twists and turns, and just when I thought I knew the answer, she throws in another! Plus I love seeing all the men, especially Lars and how he has adjusted to his new life. This is a fantastic listen and highly recommended.

Cecily Foster and Gavin McAllister are the story tellers for this and they are nothing short of amazing. Perfectly cast, Foster is Landry. A troubled girl with baggage, a passionate woman, and strong to boot, she pulls out all the stops and creates a fantastic character. McAllister could not have been a better pick as Rush. He is tough yet vulnerable, he's a loner but craves attention, and he is dominant with a voice that brings Landry to her knees. This team is wonderful and made the listen fly by with suspense and love.

Highly Engaging Listen. Fantastic Narration!!!

Wildcard is book five in the Westbrook Elite Series and can be read as a standalone though I do think it can be much more appreciated if you have read the other books in the series as there are a lot of characters in the book and all have their different roles and are in various relationships etc.

Rush is fairly new to Westbrook, having transferred there after a terrible incident happened back home and he needed to start over. Rush is part of the swim team at Westbrook, known as Elite though he is still finding his footing with his teammates.

Landry is the new assistant coach for the Elite swim team and the coach's daughter and in a weird twist of events, she and Rush meet one night at the pool and share a steamy encounter where no details of who they really are get exchanged. Surprise all around when they learn just how closely they will be working together in the future, but despite the nature of their newfound relationship they are found inexplicably drawn to each other. Landry becomes somewhat of a lifeline for Rush, someone he can lean on and trust, something he hasn't had in quite a while.

As Rush's life starts to spiral again, loyalty will be tested, more questions will be raised and eventually mysteries will be solved, but it is definitely one wild ride.

I really enjoyed this story. I found it intriguing and engaging and I was invested from beginning to end. I really like this group of friends and how they all have each other's backs and how they come together for each other. Rush and Landry's chemistry was smoking. I am not really a fan of insta-lust/insta-love but I think the author did a really good job with making their connection seem believable.

The narration for this book was fantastic. Cecily Foster and Gavin McAllister did a truly wonderful job briniging these characters to life and making this story a highly enjoyable listen. I would definitely recommend them as narrators and I cannot wait to listen to more of their work in the future. Pink Flamingo Productions The Flock VIP Review Team
