It’s over

I was so looking forward to this after reading reviews. If you are over 30 you are constantly told how decrepit you are, quite depressing. Plus, if you know a little about fitness there is nothing in this book that will make you do much different.

This has been such a help!

Im now in my mid 50’s and after having had some health issues, I was so glad to have listened to this audiobook. I’ve always struggled to enjoy exercise but funnily enough, knowing that I need to do more has actually motivated me more. I can mix in the 6 physical foundations into my daily workouts and the nutrition chapter has reminded me of how important having a variety of foods are. The narrator has a lovely voice and I now feel I have a more more rounded view on exercise.

A must read for fitness motivation.

I'm approaching my mid forties and unhappy about my physique. I go running but my strength and flexibility is poor. The title of this book gained my interest and i'm glad it did.
Easily digestible, this book has helped me focus on my weaker areas of my fitness and now i'm strength twice a week as well as eating better and doing stretching.
This is a great book for beginners or people who are already fit but have maybe become stale in their habits and workout routes.
Don't let the beginning depress you too much as it talks about how the body ages. I found it motivating to get out there and grab the bull by the horns.
Give this informative book a try. You wont be disappointed.

Suitable for over 60s too

I wasn't sure about this book as I am now over 60 and struggling to keep my body like it was in my 40s. I was surprised as it gave me a few pointers on what a 40-year-old should do, and I found I was able to follow along just the same. I may have taken it a little easier than a 40 -year-old would have, but it was still a positive experience for me.

Everything You Need To Know

I have always shied away from exercise but the older I get the more I realize that I can’t avoid it forever. I always felt like I never really knew what I was supposed to be doing. This book has inspired me to start moving, I enjoyed the scientific approach and feel like I am more aware of what I should be doing, when and for how long. I have set my goals, and started creating new habits, no more excuses!

Good timing! I just turned 42!

So much helpful advice in this book especially with the mindset and flexibility. As I've gotten older I've definitely had to stretch more to keep myself flexible. I want to increase my strength as I get older not lose it, so this audio book came at such a good time. So many gold nuggets and very well narrated.

Rejuvenating advice

As a fifty something I needed a new regime to take me into my later years, this audio book from Nick provided the perfect anti-dote to creeping loss of function. Decreptitude has been banished with the Total fitness program

OK Content but not great for audio

OK - full confession - I gave up on this audiobook halfway through. Its not that the content is bad, just that it is more suited to print format than audio. Imagine a recipe book on audio - a list of ingredients followed by basic directions on what to do with those ingredients - repeated 75 times for all the recipes in the book. It would be far more useful to have that information in print, in front of you whilst shopping and cooking. It would make for a boring listen whilst out walking or sat in the car. That's how I felt about this audiobook. There is some good, if fairly generic, information in here as an introduction to each chapter, but that is then followed by a long list of exercises and instructions for carrying out said exercises. It is not a bad premise for a book, but it just doesn't effectively work on audio. Overall, I think this book would be best suited to someone who hasn't really exercised for 20 years and doesn't know where to begin. But buy the book - not the audiobook.

Gotta take it seriously!

As the years go by, the belly stick out more, the eyes sag, and heck, so does everything else. Is this our fate set in stone? No it is not! Upon discovering somatic movement earlier this year, I have discovered that my muscular anguish is wholly avoidable and not due to my aging. I too have discovered that the same goes for my fitness. This excellent title layed it out like a smorgasbord of muscle-packing, ab-carving delicacies. Kudos to the author. Feeling 21 again. 5/5

Very Informative

There is so much good information in this book about what you should do and why. The science behind everything was very convincing to me. It’s nice to know what to do and why.

For everyone 40 years and beyond

Fitness is NOT the same once you hit your 40s! I only learned this when I hit this milestone myself. I can tell that I'm not nearly as flexible as I was in my 30s and before. This book confirmed that I wasn't just imagining things. Beyond that, this book helped me find new ways to increase and regain my flexibility through stretching and yoga. When I see older folks having trouble getting around, it is a clear reminder that I need to start taking better care of myself and this book was just the motivation I needed!

Great guide to total fitness

This book was well researched and very motivating.
I appreciated the holistic approach to overall fitness, and how to put a plan to reach your fitness goals.
The narration was easy to listen to, and the free pdf included the full ebook, with pictures demonstrating all of the exercises.

Great for over 40’s.

I listened to this audiobook because I am into fitness and wanted to learn more about fitness over 40.

This book covered everyone needed to know from basic stretches, warm ups, cool downs, to strength training, agility training, right foods for your body and much more.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking to get fit as the author speaks from experience and included lots of scientific facts to supports the ideas presented. It is great not only for over 40’s but any age.

Fantastic overview of fitness as you age

This audiobook covers so many aspects of fitness. The 7 foundations that the author covers are all so paramount to being fitter, stronger, and more mobile and flexible as we age. As a listener you will have to be honest with yourself and do some self reflection but that's a good thing! The narrator has a lovely voice and is well spoken and motivating. Each foundation is in itself worthy of it's own book but for the majority of people who want to know the basics in detail of each foundation without having to listen to hours on one subject then this is for you. The great thing is, if you are more interested in say the Agility chapter, then you can go and buy a book on that to look into it further. Even better is that Nick has just released a new book 'Breaking Bad Eating Habits' which explores nutrition and mindset in way more detail! I have the kindle which is brilliant so I'm assuming the audiobook will be out soon or even by the time others read this review.

The main thing is this book provides a holistic approach to fitness and doesn't just focus on one aspect. It's perfect for beginners and for those who feel that they need to start focusing on their balance, flexibility, strength, cardio, nutrition etc. The free PDF that comes with this also provides pictures of many of the exercises so you don't miss out by buying the audiobook!

Great listen

This audiobook gives hope and life to people who have become disillusioned by the prospect of trying to get back into shape as seasoned adults. I really like how this audiobook gives you a lot of helpful information while making it actionable. It assists you in gaining a better understanding of your body perception and how unfairly people compare themselves to others. The author organizes and breaks down the facts in an easy-to-understand manner. He starts with fundamental physiology and attitude, then moves on to the seven pillars of fitness: strength, flexibility, mobility, stability, agility, and endurance, before wrapping off with nutrition. Whether you find these principles new and foreign or straightforward, you are likely to look at them from a completely different viewpoint as an older adult because of the physiological changes that aging has brought about. People must delve deeper into each aspect of fitness to maintain their well-being once taken for granted.
