Alec began his 18th birthday with the temple monks. By day's end, he discovers he possesses magical abilities. Except his magic is unique. He doesn't require grimoires and incantations to cast spells. Alec's magic is entirely natural. He can, somehow, absorb the elements from objects and manipulate them according to his will. This power is incredible, but difficult to master. If he's going to learn how to use his natural magic, it'll take the tutelage of Archmage Diamondspear, one of the most adept magic users in the kingdom.

Summary
The siege of the Brazen City has been lifted and the Paladin Bergen remains free. Following their victory, Ahren and his companions continue on their travels, this time to the Southern Jungles in search of information regarding the whereabouts of the female Paladin, Sunju.
The journey is long and dangerous. Not only must they traverse the Nameless Desert and the untamed primeval forest, but hired assassins are hot on their heels along the Spear Path. And to top it all, the consequences of Jelninolan's extended absence from Evergreen could be fatal to her....

Good but could be better
I enjoyed the story but there were too many stereotypes in it .
Was it really necessary for the people of the jungle to be dark skinned and naked or for the man character to be so concerned about it.
Better world building need
Still liked the story though

Disappointing
I found the 1st book an enjoyable experience and immediately bought the next 2.
I preordered this and couldn’t wait for its release.
Disappointing!
A lot of padding for a quick conclusion.
I don’t think I can stomach the next 8 books while Ahren tracks down each paladin per book and will unfortunately wait until these are (with luck) out together as a series of box sets.
A promising start and poor ending.
Gildart Jackson provides a strange narrative which grated on the first book, which I was willing to overlook, but coupled together with a disappointing story line, I needn’t say more.

I have been reading/listening to this series for a little more than 2 years now
This series has been amazing to follow and I can't wait for the next books to come out.
I love the way the storyteller (Gilbert Jackson) uses different voices for each character and overall how he tells the story.
The only thing I have found wrong and unsettling is how they treat and describe the people of the Southern Jungle, but I accept the message and the way the author is is mirroring our world.
The way Torsten Weitze uses our history to make the world of Jorath. That is what I think always brings out a books background and deeper meaning.
I also love the characters in this series you follow their journey and see them growing and learning new ways to live. I like how they seem to complete the situation and how their actions seem reasonable to their personality and history.
Thank you Weitze for writing this masterpiece.
