Summary

Burdened with legend. Hardened by battle scars. Hellbent on bloody revenge.

Shields in Shadow, book one:

As the son of a famous general, Aravon is proud to captain his own company against his people's enemy. But the experienced veteran’s march toward glory dissolves into pain as ruthless barbarians massacre every last one of his soldiers. Burning for vengeance, he leaps at the chance to spearhead a specially trained company and pay back his tragic defeat with blood.

Desperate to not repeat his tragic past, Aravon trains his new warriors relentlessly. But the captain fears that all the tactical drills in the world may not matter when they’re forced to defend a helpless village against overwhelming odds. As his quick raids sow chaos amongst the enemy, the bloodthirsty savages threaten to make Aravon's nightmarish history repeat itself...

Can the captain take command of his fighting spirit before the kingdom falls to barbarous invaders?

Battle for Peace, book two:

Captain Aravon fights to honor and avenge those who died under his command. Groomed for battle by his famous father, he’s proud to stand alongside his six special-ops officers against impossible odds. But as enemy forces surround his starving countrymen, a spy within his own ranks could turn Aravon’s mission into his final downfall.

Still scrambling to root out the traitor, he must recruit a rival warrior clan to join forces against the barbarian invaders. But when the infiltrator sabotages his plan of attack, the beleaguered captain fears his war-weary legionnaires will fall in another bloody massacre.

Outnumbered and under full assault, will Aravon taste vengeance or suffer crushing defeat?

The Silent Champions: Publisher's Pack contains the first two books in the action-packed Silent Champions military fantasy series. If you like square-jawed heroes, well-oiled military action, and epic world-building, then you’ll love Andy Peloquin’s gripping series.

Ralph Lister - masterful

When a narrator can draw you in and make you feel at thought you were there, actually witnessing events as they unfold, there is only one word to describe him : Masterful

Really enjoyed it some times got lost in the story and didn’t finish my job that day. This is books 1-2 out of the 6 needed to listen to in the dark blade stories.

Only Made it to Chapter 7

Not enough imagery and too much repetition of the same concepts and information- the characters’ inner struggle with the situation(on and on).

I am the sort of reader who would rather more words, loads of small details, and lengthy descriptions; I also favour a slow burn story above all. But this was like watching a pot boil. 3/4 of the text on these first 7 chapters could be removed and I wouldn’t have missed anything.

Not a bad book (up to chapter 7) but too underwhelming to continue. I honestly don’t understand the stellar reviews.

Such modern, so politics, wow

Geez, this book really bashes you over the head with modern politics. The woman are stupid and weak, the men are predictable pansies, and the overall tone is that of someone who hasn’t spent much time interacting with people. The premise is interesting, but the execution is weak.

Couldn't finish because of narrator

Had to stop listening after a few chapters because the narrator and his huge pauses between sentences. Not just scene changes of new paragraphs, but in paragraphs. Seems like it would be a good story and I might read it on my kindle but the..................................2-3...............................second............................. pauses............................between.......................some...................sentences........................drove.......................me........................to distraction............

Books to Work By Review

Long stretches where there is character-building, plot-building, and not much happens.

It eventually satisfies my need for battle. There were many times where I really was emotionally engaged in the unfolding story, just not enough. So, good pulp and not a lot of complexity to the story.

I love all the classic cliches, but I suppose you actually can overuse them.

I did stick with this long book thus was having some fun, but I don't think I will return for the next book.

liked the voice talent.

Very Entertaining!

The story is non stop and full of excellent hack and slash action. The tale makes for a great escape from the reality of today’s upside down world.

Story is good

The story was good, but the guy narrating spoke much to flow and I had to speed up the playback just so it sounded correct

Amazing performance, and a stereotypical plot.

I love this book, mostly because of the amazing performance. I also truly enjoy strategy, and this book captures battle strategy and warrants perfectly, in an entertaining way. At time the book can seem a bit contrived, or as though everything always swings in the good guys favor in the end, but it is still an immensely enjoyable experience.

monotony

another day for the heroes, same lines from the writers hand. Defeat wrenched for the jaws of victory or vice versa.
