Story
As a necromancer, Shae loses a little more of himself every time he uses his magic. Always cold, always touch-starved, the only thing that helps is human contact. But that's hard to come by when those same dark powers scare everyone away from him. Nobody likes a necromancer. Arthur's still bitter and broken after his last lover stabbed him in the back, and the last thing he needs is another brush with evil. When he agrees to escort the wandering necromancer north, he's just doing a public service. But he never expected Shae to be so clingy. Or distractingly attractive.

In the future, mankind has learned to manipulate their DNA, harnessing only the good genes, like intelligence, strength, and height. They called this prime DNA and humans rushed to get these new pDNA injections, which gave them superhuman-like qualities. Centuries later, however, their DNA became so engineered that humans rarely lived past the age of 30, thanks to a new deadly disease called the Kiss. The only cure is to receive an injection of oDNA, DNA from an Original human that hasn't been genetically altered. Problem is there aren't many Originals left.

Lucas was just your typical guy slowly approaching his 30s. Due to the budget cuts in his company, he had been laid off, losing his job as a project manager and team leader. Just a common occurrence, not like it bothered him. But he certainly didn't expect to get scouted by another company soon after. Through the RPG game he was playing during a free afternoon? Even less. In the span of a few hours, Lucas' perspective of the world was turned upside down. Things that shouldn't be possible were happening right in front of his eyes. Monsters were real. Dungeons were real.

A new Destiny
Andy Peloquin never fails to impress, a fantastic short tale from the Heirs Of Destiny series, we follow one of the main protagonist Evren from the main books, who is an apprentice priest and its a living hell, when he and a fellow Davor make a break for it, escaping a life of slavery, while they make their way through the streets and Dark alleys of Vothmot, full of thieves, murderers and some unsavoury characters, but escaping one hell, running might have landed them in a much worse situation, with Davor alot younger, he must toughen up and steel to survive, after reading this, I will be checking out the series in the near future, awesome narration by Travis Morris, super read, a cracking arrange of voices gives it an extra touch of awesomeness, highly recommend...😁

The brilliant start to yet another series.
Anyone can read these books as a standalone set of novels and equally enjoy them without reading the preceding series 'Heroes of Darkness', from which these books are a fork in the road, and set in the same world with some of its characters. However I recommend the series reading order Mr Peloquin suggests on his site. Enjoy...!

WORTH LISTENING TO
The characters are fairly 1 dimensional, but otherwise what is an interesting and promising story. Im not sure how I feel about the thick Southeastern European/Italian accounts of all the characters, vs the American accent of the narrator (which grate against one another, to my ears) but they are done well enough.
I wish he would have given a little time to characters development even though it’s just a free prequel. The entire time is spent displaying how virtuous the Mary-Janed main character is with hardly a line of dialogue the cardboard cut out of his physically/mentally weaker friend he spends the entire time protecting. The other characters too are all 1-D.
Still the story is interesting enough that I would like to know what happens in the future. Snd best if all - I care enough about the main character to be willing to spend money on the next listen.

Intriguing
This is my first book in this series, and although it isn't as compelling as some I've listened to, it does make me curious about what happens to the 2 main characters. The narrator voice inflection & accent was good, but there wasn't enough distinction between the voices, so sometimes it was hard to follow the dialogue. But overall, it was a pretty good listen.

great intro to the character
i appreciate the underlying understanding of knowing the abuse he goes through without the writer putting it into detail. it unfortunately gets your mind wondering about the atrocities, but also allows you to become emotionally involved with the character. not sure I'm completely happy with the narrator at this point but I'm going to start listening to other books before i make that decision.

I wanted to like it but I couldn’t listen!
Some of the worst narration I have ever heard! I couldn’t force myself past the first chapter, and I really need to find a new series. This could be a great one, but I’ll never know it.
I hate to penalize the author because of the narrator, but I couldn’t justify rating a story I couldn’t bear to listen to.

Fast paced, although slightly lacking prequel novella
*this is currently included on audible, that is why i listened!
Also referred to as Evren’s Story. This is a prequel novella to the Heirs of Destiny and the latest I’ve finished from the included Podium Audio prequels on Audible.
This prequel novella focuses on the darker side of the world. Well, a fantasy world. It mainly focuses on the darker side of humans and human nature. Evren, an apprentice priest wants to escape the confines of his cell. The priests are nothing more than aggressive r*pists and abusers, that call their nightly visits “prayers” (to me this is unfortunately mentioned so often it’s literally beaten into the ground). The older apprentice boys manage a fight club, so that they can bet on others’ suffering. When an opportunity to escape surfaces, Evren will soon find out that the streets are no safer or kinder.
The rest that ensues, to me, doesn’t really do anything in the way of setup for a series that I can see, other than perhaps giving backstory on the character of Evren. We also only get the world building through the eyes of exactly what the characters see. So a seedy church compound and seedy poor city streets. There’s not much in the way of lore or anything else. I didn’t mind or dislike listening to this one, but I find now that I can’t really think of good things to say.
I will say that the narrator didn’t do a bad job, but he is American and doing an accent. Because it is not his actual accent, it comes off as sounding Spanish and Italian and Russian depending on what he’s saying. Which I guess in a fantasy world isn’t necessarily a bad thing at all, but it did pull me out of it more than once.
Personally a 2.5/5*. Just didn’t work for me.
