Summary

Tragedy had reduced James to a nobody.

Washed up and homeless in NYC, he thought his life was over. Then a message appeared in his vision:

[60,000-year countdown has ended]

[Nemesis 1 released]

As the world falls apart, as billions die, as society collapses, and all hope seems lost, James discovers a powerful truth: he was wrong to think himself a nobody. Summoning every ounce of grit and determination, he'll help forge a resistance that will defy humanity's near-omnipotent enemy by taking the fight from the streets of NYC to the stars themselves.

With the dawn of the Void, he'll become the most important person to have ever lived.

Class! - The genre at its best

This book needs much more kudos! Towers above the mediocre and is set to sit amongst the titans of this genre if it continues in this direction.

I couldn't resist diving straight into the second book of this series, and it just keeps getting better. It initially reminded me of 'Defiance of the Fall' but feels more contemporary and grounded. Initially, I pegged the main character as your typical overpowered protagonist, but now I see him more as a Halo Master Chief type, which I ended up liking more.

The main character's realism is spot-on, avoiding the trap of over-explaining his motivations. Instead, we see a believable portrayal of someone thrust into extraordinary circumstances, striving to save humanity while simply trying to survive. His sidekick is a great addition, flawed and serving as the perfect complement.

With grit, grimdark elements, humor, and a strong display of humanity, this story has it all. The magic system, pacing, and plot twists are executed well, leaving little room for criticism from me.

The narrator is brilliant,, perfectly matched to the main character and the tone of the story. I'll definitely be exploring more of his work.

Perfection

I'm probably bias here in this review because This sort of book is right up my alley.

It's just perfection. The story and performance are perfect. When I start thinking of a book and it grabs my imagination like this one did. It's pure pleasure to listen to.

I hope a sequel appears soon. Worth a credit for sure book 1

Eventually

I've been looking for a book with a good hero story, where the protagonist keeps getting more powerful and this was it. listened to it in essential one sitting. Can't recommend enough.

Weirdly gripping

My first time listening to this genre and I have to say I was really into it. I am only a casual gamer but have enough knowledge for the ratings and leveling up to make sense to me but it was explained so well a non gamer could listen and it would make sense. Can't wait for the next one.

Good story with struggles

Good mix of individual and team progress.
MC not weak. But it’s not about how awesome he is, soloing everything alone, and has an ego of a planet. It doesn’t have endless meaningless stats, just the important ones! A great evolution of the genre!

Wow!

I've read a lot of LitRPG's. Most of them are... mediocre at best.
This one though; the other reviews aren't wrong, this is next level.

- Great worldbuilding.
- Really good story pacing.
- Believable characters and great character development.
- Some interesting new takes on the genre.
- Top notch voice actor, who fits the main character perfectly and who's obviously been given enough time to do his best work, and not just record his first readthrough.

And not least; the third and final book is right around the corner.
For some reason it seems to be a rare thing seeing the conclusion to a LitRPG series.
