Story
A man. His ex-girlfriend's cat. A sadistic game show unlike anything in the universe: a dungeon crawl where survival depends on killing your prey in the most entertaining way possible. In a flash, every human-erected construction on Earth - from Buckingham Palace to the tiniest of sheds - collapses in a heap, sinking into the ground. The buildings and all the people inside have all been atomized and transformed into the dungeon: an 18-level labyrinth filled with traps, monsters, and loot.

Story
Accidentally murdered by a cleric in another universe during a botched resurrection, Arnold, a semi-pro gamer, wakes upon an altar to find himself incarnated into the overweight body of a farmer who could have been his fatter twin. He’s not the hero. He’s not the villain. He’s certainly not the chosen one who is there to save the world. He’s a clerical error. It could be a bad joke, but apparently, it happens so often that they have a standard procedure for returning you.

Really enjoyable, Definitely recommended!
I liked this first book alot, Its always great to find a series that stands out against so many other books that are the same old carbon copys of each other. The "Game" mechanics are intresting and there's no constant 5min long stat read outs, The story and world building is good and is very engaging/enjoyable and dose stand out from others in the genre. Another great thing is there's no dumb romances Or Harems, Just one dude being awesome in the wild. Even when there are town building mechanics later on in the story, As another review said it stays true to heart and never drags or feels boring. Overall really great, I'm looking forward to the next book!.

Surprisingly Entertaining
Although i found this needed a bit of a push at some stages and perhaps more of an early exploration outside the Island and more human characters this really caught my attention.
By the time Zac was forced to go on the defensive I was enjoying this a lot and am now waiting on the 2nd book to come out whilst i wait for the audio to be done.
Overall a good 4.5 stars as the first 3rd could maybe have been a bit more enticing.

a Lite LitRPG
This would be a good intro to the genre. It does not crush you with constant stats and numbers, which can leave new people to the genre with their heads reeling. If I have a criticism, it would be the overuse of the word Decimate. There are other Verbs out there.

Not the worst, but definitely not the best
While the story itself is OK, being standard LitRPG fare, it is let down by bad writing. This book really could have benefited from a good Editor and Proofreader. The overall impression is of being written by a non-native English speaker trying to impress with their knowledge of English, using five words where one would do. Even simply removing all instances of 'actually,' 'suddenly,' and cliched similes would significantly improve the narrative.
The first half of the book, time-wise and story-wise, is just too long, consisting of the MC killing stuff solo, developing his stats, learning a couple of skills, doing a couple of quests, and discovering the System. It doesn't really get going until the second half of the book when other characters are involved. Again, good editing would have corrected this.
The MC has little in the way of character and moral compass. He gets enraged only when he needs to break through some ability limitation. At all other times, he appears to have no emotions at all. His two redeeming qualities are his goal of rescuing his family after the fall, and his rescue of a young girl from abuse near the end.
The narrator, while adequate overall, needs to learn how to pronounce certain words correctly, e.g. differ and castellan.
I won't continue with this series.

Stick with it, you won’t be disappointed
This whole book is action packed, but the first third was a bit much for me. Only one character, very little dialogue, just fighting and leveling up. That being said, the rest of the book is awesome. I’m glad I didn’t stop listening. This is a very well executed litrpg. It’s vibe is closest to “he who fights with monsters” or “codename freedom”.

Solid Litrpg
Solid post apocalyptic/dystopia event litrpg/gamelit story. No Harem. No agenda. Just an MC with a bit of an advantage dumped into an uncaring world with might and magic. The book primarily focuses on character growth and completing quests. Later it gets a bit of town simulation but still sticks to its roots which can be defined as, Axeman vs World.. Yes he's a bit op but it's a fun little ride. I'll be buying the next one fore sure.

Shoddy LitRPG
The MC has a level, rank/grade, class, rarity, attributes points, dao, cultivation, noble title and achievement titles to determine his arbitrary strength. There is even a town building system thrown in. The author has gathered every LitRPG system I can think of from this genre and blended them together with zero care or depth. I could go into detail about all the problems with the systems in this book but its just not worth untangling this mess. Eventually you will just lose interest because of how unreliable or unimportant most of the story is.

A Fantastic Start of a new Series!
JF Brink has crafted one of the best epic fantasy books that I've listened to in the past few years. There are many I've listened to that are extremely good, Cradle by Will Wight being very high on the list, as an example. However, At 23 and a half hours, this tome is on a level of Brandon Sanderson's The Way of Kings. Also, this being a litRPG genre, it is very hard to find a book that runs that length without a lot of exposition, repetitive filler sections and stat-bane poisoning. None of that exists here.
Furthermore, with almost 1200 titles under my belt, I have ended up finding that I have many authors on my "favorites" list and I find I am reluctant to take chances on new or unknown authors. I took a chance on this book because of the sample audio and what seemed like credible high reviews. I wasn't displeased and highly recommend it as being well worth the cost of a credit.
Pavi Proczko's performance was superb for this type of novel. His dispassionate approach to the narration is similar to Travis Baldree's, another fantastic narrator and as with Travis, I find myself picturing them reading books to their children or grandchildren, lighting a flame within to enjoy more books. It's a gift I am very envious of.
