Summary

The fae are real, and Hetta Valstar is trying her best to marry one.

If Hetta and Wyn ever manage to marry, it will be the first union between Faerie and Mortal since the Iron Law was revoked. The mortal Queen has given them her blessing - sort of. Now, Wyn needs permission from the fae High King.

There’s an intensely personal reason why they need to tie the knot as soon as possible, and time is not on their side. The clock is ticking. Except in Wyn’s home court, which is trapped under magical stasis. To break the spell will mean venturing into the deepest realms of Faerie, where even fae princes - and definitely human lords - fear to tread.

Unfortunately, the fae problems aren’t limited to Faerie. Public tension is rising, and the reveal of Wyn’s true identity makes him and Hetta the centre of the storm. On top of this, Stariel’s magic is going haywire, and Hetta is struggling with her intensifying powers - and she might not be the only one affected.

The High King might be the only one who can help, since he’s responsible for the fae returning to the Mortal Realm in the first place.

If only they knew where he was.

Change of narrator doesn’t work

I absolutely adore this series and thoroughly enjoyed the first three books on audible. Fifty Williams did an amazing job of developing the characters through her incredible ability to add depth and feeling to each character simply by tone of voice. Unfortunately changing narrator for the final book of the series has the same effect of changing every single actor in the final film in a series; honestly audible, what were you thinking? I read the final book as I wasn’t enjoying the new, more stiffly portrayed characters. Very disappointing in what is otherwise an excellent series. I am actually devastated I’ve got to the end of the series, wondering if I’m going to be able to find another story as compelling and immersive. I loved, hated, worried, was gripped, laughed and was staggered, all in one series, so completely swept away with the story. I await the promised fifth book in the quartet series impatiently, and hope more will follow that one.

Gutted that they changed the narrator!

I’ve loved this series but why did you change the narrator??? She gave all the characters this very forced posh English accent which totally ruined the experience. I’m glad that they didn’t leave the book on a cliffhanger like all the others because if the next book is narrated by the same woman I won’t be buying it. Very sad because the story was as good as the previous books. I love a happy ending and I didn’t see the twist coming!

Awful narrator!!!

This narrator is awful! She's ruining the whole experience! She keeps mispronouncing words and her interpretation of the males in the story is abominable!!!

hate the new narrator!

absolutely love this series of books but sooo disappointed with the change or narrator. just doesn't fit with the characters...speaks too fast and accents the wrong words in the sentence. tries too hard to put on male voices and it just doesn't fit.

Finty Williams was great and portrayed Hetta just like I imagined. almost gave up this book 2 mins in purely because of the new narrator but I'm suffering through because I want to see how their stories end

why?

I love this saga but why change the voice actor after so many books? Fifty Williams does the voices perfectly, you knew who each character was without her having to say. All the men in this book sound like the same person so it's hard to follow who is talking. I may have to read the next book as I don't think I can listen to this narrator again. My frustration is only because a narrator was established for many books and to interject a new one was ludicrous. This new actor, unfortunately could never fill Finty's shoes

Disappointing narration

What a shame Finty Williams has not narrated this book as she did the first three. It has been sadly let down by a stilted and simpering narrator.

Totally bizarre narration

I was prepared to feel a bit discombobulated by the change of narrator for the 4th book. I realised that all the characters would sound different, so even had the reader been brilliant, it would have taken some getting used to.

Sadly, she isn’t brilliant. She’s so busy trying to do an impression of Finty Williams (who narrated the first three books) that she’s not able to read the material properly. Her intonation is very strange, with stress and emphasis placed on all the wrong words, changing sentence meanings to greater or lesser degrees.

There are also some really weird pronunciation choices. I’m only a chapter or two in, and already it’s noticeable and jarring when she mispronounces perfectly normal words.

I’ve loved listening to this series but I think I’ll switch to my Kindle for this last one, as it’s not at all an enjoyable listen. Such a shame as I am expecting it to be just as good a book as the others.

Change of narrator was a disaster

I have loved this series but could not bear the stilted voice of the new reader and completely agree with the previous reviewer, it was a strange and very wrong decision to change reader. Please get Finty Williams back for the next book.

Great story; terrible narration

Amazing story but really terrible narration. It’s read like a news report rather than a novel. I only persevered because I loved the other 3 installments

Shame about the new narrator

I still loved the story and it was an enjoyable listen but I definitely preferred the narrator of the first three books. Many of the characters sounded too stilted compared to before and there were a lot of mispronunciations of common words as well as inconsistencies with how she was saying names and other story specific words. Maybe this was just my teacher brain being picky. I still enjoyed the listen and would recommend the story.
