Irene is a professional spy for the mysterious Library, whose staff are sent to different realities to harvest dangerous and mystical fiction.

Irene has been posted to an alternative steampunk London along with her enigmatic new assistant, Kai. Their mission: to retrieve a dangerous edition of Grimms' Fairy Tales. But it has already been stolen.

In London's underground, the laws of nature have been bent – supernatural creatures and unpredictable magic stalk the land. The city is home to vampires, werewolves – factions that are all prepared to fight to the death for this book.

Irene must face a web of deadly danger, deception and secret societies. Her new assistant is hiding secrets of his own. Yet failure is not an option – the nature of reality itself is at stake . . .

Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book. Vale’s voice was a bit off- it seemed slightly pantomime-esque - while the others were more serious, and the characterisation was a little uneven. However it’s a good read and the pacy plot pulls you along. I’ll be downloading the next one

An intriguing book

I enjoyed this book. I liked the concept. Also liked the descriptions of the buildings, lands and various magical creatures. Very good narration. Looking forward to listening to the next book in the series.

Fun, lightweight romp

I listened to this audiobook during a period of recovery from an injury when I needed something light and easy to follow.
The story is great fun and I enjoyed the concept so much that I will download the next in the series. There were a couple of times I thought the author was about to give in to full cliche mode but fortunately she only skirted around it. However, characters going “down on one knee“ repeatedly drove me nuts! Other descriptions are available!
I hope the sidekick character is fleshed out a little more in the next book and we get to see more of the library’s purpose.
If you like your fantasy lightweight, enjoy a literary nod and want a book that moves along at a clip then I’d recommend The Invisible Library.

I enjoyed this different and quite novel story.

I found the writing style to be a tad simplistic. I did wonder if this was a book aimed at 'young adults' and the narrator enforced this view. Her reading style was rather childlike with its sing song tones but the voices, of other characters, were very good. I enjoyed this different and quite novel story and will buy the next in the series on Audible.

Entertaining and absorbing

A fun story, well narrated, that held my attention throughout, and that has made me want to listen to book 2.

Good adventure. slightly irritating reading.

The story is nice, adventure, excitement, creaturs and all the magical goodies.
The reading voices are rather irritating, but more annoying is the difference in volume per character which makes it hard to find the good setting to listen to it. This also prevents late night reading, as regularly a character will start screaming or barking loudly. A day time read hence.

Unusual Story

I didn't enjoy the start of this book but as more characters became involved it became far more interesting.
Several likable characters and of course several unpleasant ones too.
By the end of this story I was really looking forward to more as the likable characters will be in the next book so they will become more rounded and show more depth as they will feature from the beginning of book 2.
