Summary

The number one best-selling author.

Just promise me one thing.... Have the courage to follow your heart.

Buenos Aires, 1948.

Audrey Garnet lives a sheltered life in the exclusive Argentinian community of Hurlingham. That is, until Cecil and Louis Forrester arrive, travelling from England to make their fortunes.

Admired by all for her beauty and grace, Audrey quickly catches the eyes of both brothers, but it is talented-but-troubled outsider Louis with his musical flair whom she is drawn to most. Cecil, however, is a better match - a decorated war hero who has charmed the entire community, including Audrey’s parents, forcing Audrey to keep her true feelings a secret.

But when a family tragedy rocks Audrey’s world, she is faced with a terrible dilemma: must she do her duty to her family, or will she finally be able to follow her heart?

A beautiful book beautifully read 💖

I’ve listened to several of Santa Montefiore’s books. They are just beautiful. The details and descriptions are so enthralling and I become wrapped up in the emotions and quality of her storytelling.
Juanita McMahon’s narration is just lovely. I found Santa’s books after listening to her narrating another author’s story. I am completely hooked. This is her 4th book I’ve listened to and just love them.

A bit longwinded

Great narration, nice story but a bit longwinded and predictable. Like her other books more.

A lovely....

story with some great details within the book. The narrator was good at using different voices for the characters.

Just didn't come alive for me

Somehow just went in one ear and out the other. I couldn't bring myself to care about the characters at all and even after 18 hours in their company, I've already forgotten all of them and everything that happened. They were generic caricatures, and much as the narrator tried her damnedest to insert drama (achieving a performance that put me in mind of those poor opera singers you get serenading you in tacky Italian restaurants) they just didn't come off the page.

Slow

Found this very slow & a little too sweet. The word melancholy was used far too much!! Narrator was very good.
