Sometimes your past just won't let go....

As a heat wave grips the country, DS Jenna Morgan is called to a domestic incident at the home of a young family in Ironbridge.

Pregnant Imelda Cheetham-Epstein has been found unconscious by her husband, Zak with serious head injuries.

When Jenna arrives on the scene, she discovers something even more disturbing the couple's 11-month-old son, Joshua, is missing and the race against time begins to find him.

Is this an accident or something more sinister?

Are the two incidents linked?

Or has something in the Cheetham-Epstein's past caught up with them?

Diane Saxon is back with a gripping new psychological crime novel, perfect for fans of Cara Hunter and Carol Wyer.

Disappointing

I’m not sure if it’s the author or main character that annoys me so much. Explaining every little detail as if to prove how knowledgable she is.
I really wouldn’t bother.

Hard to like

I find this series so hard to like, this is the 4th one I've listened to now and although I've stuck with them it's been mostly due to not being able to find anything else to listen to.

My main frustration is the narrator, there is nothing actually wrong with the narration but the reader has a very saccharin voice, combine this with the fact the author has created two characters in Jenna and her sister who seem to have the depth of a tea spoon and tend to notice muscular arms and sexy accents whilst holding back tears and the two things combine to make the characters appear weak and vacuous. I find myself cringing when Jenna loses her temper or "takes charge" as it feels incredibly fake. The author clearly wants her to be a hard ass but she comes across as a slightly pathetic teenage girl with a bit of an attitude problem.

There is also a massively unnecessary number of side quests, obviously character building is important but I don't care about the hunt for a dog walker, or the meals where Jenna and her sister hold hands over the table with tears in their eyes. In the last book multiple pages were given over to some kids in car and drug pushing dog walker, neither of which progressed the story anywhere. These little flights of fancy suck up huge chunks of the book which then leave the actual story feeling rushed. At least two extremely serious mental health issues are lightly brushed over in this book, whilst Domino has pages and pages dedicated to his need for 2 hours walk a day. And what's with the need to constantly repeat what kind of wine it is? Is this book sponsored by Mateus Rose?

There is definitely something about these books which gets me to read them but I'd abandon them without a second thought if a new DCI Logan book suddenly appeared.

tinnitus

this is the last book in the series so far and although I am enjoying them certain things keep getting repeated Genna's tinnitus right we know Diane enough already maybe do an prologue on the kidnapping then Genna's tinnitus due to the damage done by pc horror getting shot . Also in this one I don't want to give anything away the subject matter was not really explained well enough and I would have thought it should have been a different diagnosis not the one that it is branded about . Still enjoyed all the books and watching for the next one in the series

Another good book

Really tense and quite nerve wracking, it showed how real mental health issues are. Read & Written so well.

Another really repetitive story

The storyline was fab absolutely brillant but it’s so repetitive if I heard Adrian and Jenna didn’t see each other once I heard it 5/6 times - note we do not have memory problems and the same goes for the whining about fliss kidnapping constantly ! I love the Jenna character but I find the constant talking about the past every few sentences highly annoying - I understand why it’s incase others haven’t read the prequel but it’s constant !!

Kept me guessing!!

I actually found this one somewhat disturbing. I won’t elaborate as it would spoil it for others but oh my goodness I was so tuned into it for the 9 or so hrs non stop as I drove my truck

Another good story

Another good story containing the usual main characters. The insight in to mental health was also interesting and well handled. Well performed, apart from a couple of unusual pronunciations.

Too descriptive

This book was so annoying!!! It got me so frustrated.. I worked it out from the beginning. Way too descriptive to the point of boring! Ive enjoyed the other books in the series but this was a letdown! Wish I’d returned it .. please in your next books stop making the murderer tilt their head to one side!!!!

love this author

as much as I love this author and her books, in this story it was a little difficult waiting for the main characters to catch up to what became so obvious to the listener. This author does have a way with words and descriptive detail. That makes the stories easy to read and/or listen to and enjoy.

I don't want to know

I felt disconnected again as it began with the knowledge of who done it. I want to figure it out.

Well written Story

I’d probably give this a 4.5* rating. It was entertaining from the start and I normally guess the ending but this one got me! I have really enjoy listening to Diane Saxon’s books and look forward to listening to more.
