Summary

Contains the first two books in the thrilling Cassie McGraw series.

What Lies Beneath, Book 1:

Fresh out of high school and off to college, Cassie thought she had the world by its tail, and then she met Mike. Tall, handsome, and a police detective to boot, he swept her off her feet and into a whirlwind relationship that led to an engagement ring.

But things aren't always as they seem, and Cassie comes to discover that Mike has a dark side. When she learns just how dark it can be, she comes face-to-face with the greatest forward she could imagine, and it leaves her burned and scarred for the rest of her life.

Cassie isn't one to wallow in misery. She takes her experiences and a degree in psychology and sets out to help other women avoid the kind of thing that happened to her, but then one of her clients comes to her in desperation. Her abusive husband has kidnapped her daughter, and it's up to Cassie to find the girl before it's too late.

Of course, then the only trick is how to survive.

Don't Fight Fate, Book 2:

Someone is abducting and killing the abused women that Cassie works with, and it all seems to be aimed at hurting her. The police are stymied and can't find any leads, but Cassie is too stubborn to let this monster win. With the help of her FWB, Dex, she learns some things the police don't know, but that she can't reveal without getting herself into serious trouble.

After five women have gone missing, Cassie manages to identify the type of woman the perpetrator goes after, and decides to set a trap of her own for him. Using the prosthetic mask that makes her look almost normal, she uses herself as bait, but this is a man who is highly skilled at abducting his victims. Despite all her precautions, Cassie ends up having to depend only on herself if she has any hope of survival, let alone saving the lives of his other victims.

Cassie is a survivor, however, and doesn't know how to give up. This guy may be a serial killer, but he's never had to deal with the likes of Cassie McGraw.

Another Poor Book

A terrible simpering narrator and a truly awful story. How is trash like this published and getting good reviews? This goes in an ever growing pile of books by authors never to be read again . This was free but my time isnt.

Awful misogynistic tripe.

Got about a third of the way in before, nauseated by the gratuitous violence against women and the pathetic behaviour of the protagonist, I gave up. This is anti-feminist nonsense.

One of the best thrillers I've listened to in a very long time. Well crafted, and beautifully narrated.

Life across the pond….

As a U.K. reader, I found the most significant aspect of these stories was its revelations of life in the USA. I had no idea that educated people, farmer’s daughters even, existed almost entirely on takeaways and ready meals. I wasn’t surprised about the firearms, but it was the general acceptance of their use that was chilling. And it is obvious that public transport doesn’t exist - absolutely everyone has a car. I was saddened that female students spent Friday nights getting so drunk that they would need a courtesy car to return them to their halls, and then spend half the weekend in recovery.
That said, these were two good yarns based on a heroine who overcomes a terrible situation by dint of her own grit and determination, using her own experiences to improve the lives of other women on difficulty.

I loved it!!! I didn't want it to end. It made me laugh out loud, chuckle in places and feel sorry for Cass. I look forward to more from this author.

Surprised by how much I enjoyed

I'm so surprised at how entertaining and informative these two thrillers were. The stories were absolutely fantastic (halfway through I stopped and purchased the next two books so I can listen NOW!). They also taught me a lot about what it is like physically, mentally, and emotionally living with the traumatic aftermath of severe burning and life-long scarring. If you like thrillers and mysteries you won't go wrong with these books. If you are military or have family and friends who have been burned or lost limbs in battle, or LEOs who have lost fellow officers, this book may provide some insight in what they are dealing with (or that perhaps you are). I highly recommend these books. Oh, and the narrator is so good that I was completely and totally engrossed in the stories andl I forgot all about the reader!

Excellent

I usually don't like books like these but it was amazing! all the little details given that are usually left out by other authors is what got me to love these books.
the reader did an amazing job as well.
