About this listen
Even Hell needs a hero.
Aidan Ward works security at a mental institution, but sometimes he thinks he should have been on the other side of the cells. Ever since he was young, a strange voice has whispered to him. A voice that grows loudest in times of rage.
After an encounter with a beautiful stranger, Aidan finds himself in the Abyss, a hellish landscape filled with lost souls, demons, and nightmarish beasts. But the most powerful beings in this infernal plane are Seekers, preternatural warriors who harness their inner Flame to become gods and godslayers. Reigning above them all is the Obsidian Emperor.
To survive in the Abyss, Aidan must become a Seeker. Yet his body is cursed, his channels of Flame permanently blocked by an ancient legacy. When a young succubus tries to slay him, Aidan discovers a spiritual affinity for her instead, a gift of that same heritage. By joining with her in body and spirit, Aidan creates his own path to power.
But Aidan's arrival has not gone unnoticed. Those who would challenge the Obsidian Emperor believe that Aidan's ancestry is the key to victory. For the Obsidian Emperor, fearing a portent of his doom, has issued a decree that threatens the very fabric of the planes. Some will hunt him. Others will covet him. Danger will follow him, wherever he goes.
Master. Savior. Ruler. The Path of the Flame leads down many roads. But first, Aidan must cultivate the inner power fueling himself and his demonic bonds before the rising threats overwhelm them. And through it all, the dark voice in Aidan's heart grows louder and louder...
Flame of the Succubus marries elements of xianxia, dark fantasy, western mythology, and video games. The listener should expect explicit scenes and a heavier tone that matches the growth of a succubus harem in a hellish setting. Co-cultivation of Aidan and his succubi is also integral to the progression fantasy elements. You have been warned.

Much more than just cheap naughty frills.
I was provided a copy of this book free of charge in exchange for an honest review.
As a big fan of fantasy novels and LitRPG (along with their sub-genre of cultivation tales) I have always been pretty rigid in my listening choice and stick to high fantasy settings that I know.
One time I strayed into a more sexually-orientated style involving a mimic and came away both disappointed and angered by what I read and so I generally stay away from Harem style but the synopsis here took my fancy and so I decided to ask for a chance to read the book.
12 hours later, I have finished and I decided to wait a few days before reviewing as I like to mentally compartmentalise aspects of a book before reviewing, particularly when they contain a genre or style that, generally, I dislike; such as the harem/sex aspect here. I have taken a few days to digest what I experienced and I feel I am ready.
To avoid spoilers, I'll simply say that this is the tale of a man (Aidan) trapped in an infernal realm populated by demons, dark gods and those in between seeking a way home and, in his journey, he ends up 'bound' to 2 Succubi.
Now in a lot of this type of story, the character cultivates through meditation of pulling energy into their being but here, being as he is bound with 2 Succubi, he does it through the carnal acts. I'm no prude and so scenes of a sexual nature don't concern me but (in reference to the earlier books I tried) the idea of a person being raped for fun is not my idea of good literature and so I was pleased to find that everything here was consensual and, while graphic, not grossly portrayed.
Also, while Aidan clearly wasn't put out by having to do this, the emphasis soon became more aligned with the power and abilities this provided those involved and so it became more interesting to see what evolution this would lead to. And the progression of all the characters, both physically and narratively was very interesting. The abilities gained by the characters were interesting and added a real sense of excitement to the story and its many battles.
I would say that, if I had to choose one thing that I didn't like, it was the names of some of the characters as they were extremely cliche at times and, meeting his first abyssal character had me rolling my eyes.
Finally, any audiobook lives or dies on the spoken word and I'm pleased to say that Austin Walp, a narrator I was hitherto unfamiliar with, does a very good job or giving each character a sense of personality and even succeeds with the female characters too. My only niggle is that sometimes he pauses a tough too long between words mid-sentence which can leave my ears straining but this isn't a gamebreaker by any means.
So in closing, really enjoyed this tale and, with the well handled cliffhanger, I am interested in continuing with the tale to discover what the future has in store for our lusty little trio.

Narration is terrible
A decent story ruined by quite possibly the most wooden narration ever. Please change the narrator for subsequent stories in the series.
