Summary

I’m Michael Gilmore, bearer of Noctis the Onyx Dragon, the only male student of Drako Academy, and apparently, the one person who can save a dying world.

Only a few days ago, I was transported from Los Angeles to a fantasy world teeming with super-powered female soldiers who can command the magic of their bonded dragons. Except the dragons are dying out. And I’m going to bring them back. But no one knows how I can do it. After all, how do you breed dragons? The answer lies within Drako Academy and the stunning female dragonmancers inside its crystal walls.

Reference after reference

This is the first audio book that I have listened to of this nature and I have mixed feelings after finishing it. First of all, the narration was fantastic and read with enthusiasm and emotion.

My issues lie with the protagonist and the multiple Earthly references made that his other worldly friends could never understand. At first it felt like a common mistake, but by the end of the story he had continued to reference movies, games and even KFC for absolutely no reason.

I know this is the first book of a series, but I feel that the protagonist took centre stage in place of world building I might have preferred.
