Summary

Obsession is the deadliest vice.

Carrera.

A word whispered in fear. A name to avoid at all costs. Until I come face-to-face with it.

Abducted. Held against my will. Prisoner of a war I know nothing about.

Captive to a ruthless cartel prince who wants more than my freedom.... He wants me.

I should hate him…. But the deeper Valentin drags me into his bloodstained world, the harder it becomes to resist.

Until that stain? That blood? It becomes mine…. And I'm no longer a prisoner of war.

I am the war.

Smoldering Dark Mafia

This was my first time reading/listening to anything by Cora, and I loved it!! Eden and Val were so hot, their chemistry undeniable, but also this semi-hatred was there that added to all the deliciousness! I loved how each book is a standalone, but I am looking forward to the next couple🥰

This story sucked me in and wouldn’t let me go! The narrators did an Amazing job!! Sarah is always great! The males were new to me!! I certainly enjoyed Val’s accent and low growl!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥

LOVE LOVE LOVE

Are you kidding me right now?! 🔥🔥🔥 This book is fantastic! It’s so much better than the typical cartel romance. The plot line is intricate, the ending is not predictable, the main and secondary characters are well-written, and the steam is there in spades.

The narration was perfect all around, and Brian’s performance in particular was stellar.

Val: “You might want to arrange a conference between your mouth and body, because there seems to be some miscommunication. For a woman who doesn’t want me to touch her, you’re standing very close.” [Said in Brian’s deep Italian accent = panty drop!]

Great book and great production! I very highly recommend.

Val and Eden 🔥

I enjoy a good mafia story. Eden falls into danger when she crosses Valentin Carrera. The Carreras are feared and they are ruthless. I loved that Eden was no wallflower, she was just as intense. The plot is interesting with lots of action and suspense. It is also hot between these enemies to lovers characters. The narrators are a delight to listen to.

Need more Carrera Cartel asap🖤

Mafia is a one click for me! Absolutely love it…Blurred Red Lines is mafia on steroids. Bonus it’s in the south so that’s cool:) BRL totally gave me Queen of the South/Narcos vibes & I FLOVE those shows.

I listened to the audiobook which was fantastic. Each of the narrators were awesome:)

Fave quotes:
‘Val Carrera taught me that life didn’t necessarily run in clear shades of black and white. Gray areas clouded a side of people they had no idea existed—a side capable of unspeakable acts when thrust into darkness. In those gray areas, love and passion ran volatile in two people whose paths were never meant to cross.’

“Ah, but this is the hallmark of how we operate, Cereza. We fight hard and f* harder. Isn’t that the key to a lasting relationship?” “We’re some seriously f* up individuals.”

Review

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about a mafia style book, but honestly I loved it. The story took place in a way I wasn't expecting it to. I don't know if it's because I typically don't read these books to anticipate the chain of events but I was always wondering what was going to happen next. It starts off at a pretty fast pace and then is non-stop until the very end. Each chapter wanted me to find out what was going to happen next. There were obviously some steamy scenes but it was more feeding off the attraction and the danger that the characters were in, instead of it being the main focus. While I really don't know much about the mafia and cartel, besides what I see on TV, I felt like this story was believable. The violence was not held back at all which I am glad for. I don't think this book would have been successful other wise without it being so raw.

I really liked Eden's character. As I don't ever see myself being in her shoes, a lot of her choices did make sense. I liked how she questioned herself a lot but still did what she thought was best for the situation. When she had to make dark choices, the effects it had on her seemed so real. It wasn't like all of the sudden she was this cartel boss, but the dark deeds she had to do, really affected her conscience. Val is exactly what I would expect from a hard ass cartel boss, falling for an unpredictable girl that threw a curve in his plans. Their relationship was explosive as I would have imagined it being. I really enjoyed the banter and everything that led up to their relationship. The way they both had walls built up but they tore each others down.

Final Thoughts
Overall, Blurred Red Lines by Cora Kenborn was a really enjoyable book. As I wasn't sure how I would enjoy a cartel/mafia book, this one was very engaging. The danger always felt real and the pacing was very fast. Everything seemed non-stop since the first event took place and I enjoyed seeing where it led. While this book did have a lot of violence, I really think it helped sell the book. Eden was a great main character to follow. She was so flawed but it was honestly the best character for this book. I really enjoyed her development and not seeing her really lose herself. Val was exactly what I expected him to be. Both were written very well. I recommend this book if you are looking to try something new or your enjoy cartel style books with some steaminess and spitfire filling the pages!

Audio Review
NOTE: The narration does not affect my rating of the book
As soon as you tell me that Sarah Puckett is narrating - my response is always positive. I honestly love listening to her narrations. She just always does such a great job and the emotion she puts behind her works. Brian Pallino and Alan Carson also did a great job as well. Each voice was perfect for the character they were representing and I really enjoyed this production.

Wow!

Dark and dangerous, sweet and ballsy, this is a great listen! If you’re a fan of mafia and cartel stories this one is definitely for you. Heck even if you aren’t a huge fan of the dark and less romantic types you still need to read or listen to this book. While the narrators are some of my faves this was my first by this author and she’s now added to my fevers list.

5 Stars!!

I received this audiobook via an Audiobook Obsession Group Promo Code and this is my unbiased voluntary review.

This is Book One of the Carrera Cartel Trilogy by Cora Kenborn, it was my first book by this author and I highly reccommend it. (If you liked movie Miss Bala, you are in the right vein with this series.) Ms Kenborn knocked this series out of the park!

All three narrators in this performance did a fantastic job. Val and Eden were fantastic set of characters, and the plot overall was high octane suspense and adrenaline. Nothing about this story was predictable and the pacing was right up there with Val was very much a product of his environment and he met his match in the sassy survivor that was Eden, the unfortunate pawn in one very deadly game between two rival cartels that has already claimed the life of someone she loved dearly, to save her, he has to steal her from her life, and the cost of living just might be her freedom. Blood is getting spilled on all sides, and even with all his power, reach and connections, someone is still pulling strings that threaten to hang them faster than Valentin can get his barings. When his father is murdered, he has to travel to Mexico and reclaim his crumbling empire, promising that if Eden comes with him, he will help her get revenge for both of their losses.

Sexy as hell

This book is about the relationship between Eden, a sassy, damaged, bartender and Valentino (Val) a suave, sexy cartel boss. These two meet at the bar and are flirty but never really act on that. Eden doesn't really believe in relationships after her marriage ended and Val can't get too close to anything because of his dangerous lifestyle. Eden has no idea who Val is at first or that she actually works at his family's cantina. Something very tragic happens one night while Eden is leaving work which changes her life in more than one way forever. Due to this event Eden is thrust into Val's world. Eden and Val are pretty explosive from the start but it is a bit of a rocky start. Eden has to navigate this new dangerous world she's found herself in. Val has to decide how much he is willing to risk for love. There is a lot of action in this book. The love scenes are hot as hell and you really "see" the chemistry between Val and Eden. This story is pretty angsty up until the last few chapters. Brian, Sarah & Alan do an amazing job of bringing the characters to life. I love the accent, it is sexy AF. Cora is a talented writer. Her characters have so much depth and power. #FlockReviewTeam # PInkFlamingoProductions #AudioObsessionReviewer

3 STARS

Overall I liked this book it kept me interested until the end. There are a few moments when I really felt bad for Cereza (nickname given by H). Lots of action and close calls. It was a little too insta-love for me. I needed more of an actual relationship to develop between the two main characters before the L word was thrown around. That’s the reason I’m rating it 3 stars, which for me means I liked it but didn’t love it. I was just missing that spark and chemistry that makes you swoon when the couple is together. The plus is that even though this is a series it’s also a standalone and the next book I believe is a different couple. There is a story ARC that I’m assuming will continue on with the next book.

Narration was great! I enjoyed the accents and the fact there was two male narrators. This book is told in multiple POVs.

Exciting mafia story

I really liked this Cartel drama. It's not often you find feisty heroines in mafia dramas and this story definitely had one. The chemistry and attraction were great as was the action and dialogue. My only complaint is that this book lacked steam. The love scenes were very quick and not very detailed so it was definitely lacking the sexiness one would expect from a dark mafia drama. I was hoping it would happen but it never did. So that is a definite minus for me in this kind of book.

Otherwise the story was really good and so was the narration. Would love it even more if the narration was duet as these two narrators would sound great together.

Overall a good listen that and story that just needed some more heat and steam to make it a repeat listen and a 5 star.

A Think Line Between Love and Hate

This is a gritty enemy to lovers, mafia romance. Valentin is the tortured Mexican drug lord. Sexy, brooding, and DANGEROUS. When he meets Eden "cherry" Lachey. The sweetest thing he shouldn't want to corrupt but can't stay away from. With a relationship that is doomed before it begins. This was a rollercoaster ride of violence, chemistry, loss, and power. There's truly never a dull moment. It's so much fun to watch them go from flirty lust to I hate you so much I want to rip your clothes off and beyond.

The narration is stellar. Sarah Puckett is always brilliant.

Lies, Betrayal and Some Serious Chemistry!!!!

I was so excited to try out a new author and I love dark, twisted heroes. I haven't read a ton of cartel books but they are quickly becoming a new favorite of mine. Blurred Red Lines is book one in the Carrera Cartel series and I found myself getting invested in the story early on. As with a lot of these kind of books, I think they start off a little confusing as they try to suck you in with a lot of action and you figure out early on that you definitely cannot trust anyone as everyone is not who they seem and everyone has their own agenda.

My heart went out to Eden due to the loss she suffered which ultimately set her on the path she went in this book. I do think despite the circumsances of how the relatiosnhip started, Eden and Val had some seriously hot chemistry. The book was chock full of action, drama, betrayal and I found myself dying to know how the story was going to play out and if there was going to be a decently happy ending considering all of the trouble throughout the book. I enjoyed the author's writing style and cannot wait to read the next book in the series!!!

Brian Pallino, Sarah Puckett and Alan Carlson completely nailed it with the narration of this story. I love Sarah Puckett as a narrator and just find her voice incredibly pleasant to listen to and I think she does a great job evoking emotion throughout a story. I also really enjoyed the accent thoughout the story for Val. I think the narration was fabulous!!! #PinkFlamingoProductions #TheFlock

Such An Amazing Listen

Carrera
A word whispered in fear and respect. A name to avoid at all costs. Until I see something I shouldn't and come face to face with it. Abducted. Held against my will. A prisoner of war I know nothing about. But my kidnapping is more than a case of mistaken identity, and my captor is more than a stranger. He's the heir to the devil. A ruthless cartel prince who takes everything and promises nothing. I should hate him, but the deeper Valentin Carrera drags me into his corrupt world, the harder it becomes to resist either one. He's determined to take more than my freedom. He wants to own my soul. I'm at his mercy. A plea that means nothing to a man whose hands are stained with blood. Until that stain? That blood? It becomes mine. And I'm no longer a prisoner of war. I am the war.

This book is a standalone so you don't have to worry about listening to this book and it not having a conclusion. This is also a dark mafia captive romance. Valentin is a heartless criminal but I swear you won't look at him this way. You will fall for him and think he is the sexiest thing since sliced bread. Eden is a equally amazing character that you are going to be rooting for from the beginning to the end of this book. This girl might have a heart of gold but she is as tough as tough can be. I loved her so much. Together weather by force or of their own choice they are one amazing couple. They have quiet the story to tell and I know I thought nothing worth having is ever easy and this book will prove that. I love the narrators and thought they did an amazing job of bringing this story to life. I loved listening to every second of this book and hope we get the second one in audio as well

Sexy and Dark Mafia Book

Cora Mencken has written a riveting take of the violent, betrayal, dangerous, and ruthless world of the Mexican Mafia. Val is a dominant ruthless leader. Eden is a strong independent woman. There is instant chemistry when the two first meet and Eden is unwittingly thrust into Val's dangerous world. This was one of those stories that was very hard to stop listening to. I found it intriguing to see how each of these characters influenced each other. Their sexual energy and love was off of the charts explosive to say the least. At the end they both made difficult decisions. The narrators enhanced the story with their outstanding narrations. I felt that I was there witnessing the lives of these characters. Val's accent was swoon worthy. They expertly depicted the emotions of all of the characters. I highly recommend this Audible book.

What an exciting eventful story full of action, suspense and drama!

What an exciting opening for a new series! The story blew me away with all the twists and turns! The characters are harsh, hard and…well mostly cartel. Then there is the love or maybe revenge flowing through the veins of both Val and Eden. Very tricky! Living in a “who can you trust” world. I really enjoyed learning more of these characters and what makes them tick.

Eden is a strong woman who brings out the crazy only when needed. She is perfect for Val who is straddling a line right now. I loved their dynamic. From the beginning I could easily see the attraction between them. It only intensified as they became more intertwined. Secondary characters are great as well..even the bad ones.

I did listen to this on audio. I loved that the same person who voiced Brody also voices him in Brody’s book.(sorry I listened to that one first). The narration is superbly done.
