Summary

All Vhalla wanted for her seventeenth birthday was a book.... What she got was the attention of a dark and fiery prince and a rare elemental magic.

After unknowingly saving the life of the crown prince with powers she's not supposed to have, Vhalla must make a choice: Embrace her sorcery and leave the quiet life she's known, or eradicate her magic entirely.

But the choice isn't hers alone. Powerful forces who want to use her magic for their own gain lurk in the shadows, and the only ally Vhalla may have is the cut-throat Crown Prince Aldrik. He's everything she's been taught to fear—a sorcerer and royalty—but beneath his harsh exterior is the heart of a tortured man she finds herself dangerously drawn to.

He might be the last person she ever wanted. But he's the one person she needs. And, with his training, she'll show the Empire what a quiet library girl is truly capable of.

I just love Elise Kova

I was gifted the complete series on audiobook to review, all thoughts and opinions are my own, thank you Elise Kova.

Another great series by Elise Kova. This is not my favourite series of Elise's, but I did thoroughly enjoy the development of Vhalla's character across the series. I felt I had no idea what twist and turn Elise was going to send Vhalla's way and her companions next and there was a lot of hardship along the way.

A great enemies to lovers romance, forced/accidental proximity and found family trope example in this series and I was here for it. The magic system was brilliantly crafted, world building very well written and I really liked how brutal Elise was to these characters. I always like a book that has concequences and some loss for the characters, as that is part of life.

This is not a fairytale and our 'hero' is not welcomed by everyone, everywhere she goes and even those she is helping with her magic do not show their gratefulness for all that she does and sacrifices. I felt for Vhalla, throughout the series but I was glad she got the ending she did. Even if she did make a very silly bargain. I am excited to see how that plays out in the vortex series and how all of these books in this world tie together!

Narrators performance is definitely one of my favourites, I could listen to Caitlin Kelly all day!

Would definitely recommend for YA Fantasy readers, who love magic and a brutal roller-coaster for the main character, with a sprinkling of romance!

I could not stop reading

I have been reading Fantasy sci fi paranormal for over 40 yrs I don’t ever write reviews but this Book series was one of my top 3 books I have read !!! I could not stop reading it . I laughed I cried <<very rare for me to do. I finished it in 4 days I also did not sleep for 2 of them the only thing I was a bit disappointed about how the epilogue was handled It should of stayed in the eyes of Vhalla or Aldrik not the Lady of the west .. I felt like they where things as the reader left me to guess about the Twins about northern clan about Sara about a few other things.. I can only hope Elise Kova takes pity on all of us and writes a 6th book …

5***** Must Listen!!!!!

Caitlin Kelly's narration on these newly revised audiobooks truly brings each character to life, enhancing the storyline.

Air Awakens series takes my emotions on a roller coaster ride, one on which I will ride over and over. I read the series about a year ago. Now upon finishing the audiobooks, I experienced the same emotions as if it were the first time. The series is so well-written. It's filled with humor, magic, crystals, bonds, love, friendships, betrayal, fear, destiny, trust, symbols, respect, sacrifice, loss, freedom, acceptance, admiration, fate, heartache, war, hardship, redemption, hope.

Well-developed characters who show strength and growth throughout. Intricately detailed world-building.

"The tower takes care of its own."
"I refuse to love you halfway."

Stopped with 1 book unread

I freely admit to loving an Omnibus or complete series bought with 1 credit, usually because I hate waiting on other books for resolution only to find out it’s 6-9 books out! I’m almost 60 years old & could die waiting on a series to wind up! Review- I didn’t realize this was YA novel full of angst dialogue about every decision goes on & on but still characters make stupid mistakes over & over after a while I quit trying to like the whining & often cruel MC’s, I finally gave up! Be aware there are things that happen so another series can start & seems like the writer couldn’t decide how to let the story end I admit to FF and also falling asleep while listening I really wish I hadn’t been greedy & should’ve used my credit for something else-like the old saying “ you get what you pay for” I certainly did. I don’t recommend this book for anything other than the voice acting,it kinda sucks that the writer used all that time & energy in writing the series and never seemed to understand the characters I hate the wasted time for both of us….

Moved Along Well

I really enjoyed this, each book was a continuation of the prior story but different at the the same time. The performance by Caitlyn Kelly was great, I really enjoyed this series. I have already recommended it to my sister. I might even listen to it again

Hate to love it

If you love self loathing, this is a story for you! The first book had me captivated: overlooked main character meets mysterious man, and add in a bratty prince that matures over time with magic and war… but that is it. The main characters are so toxic for one another, you want to smack the female lead for dealing with such a manipulative male lead (come ooonnn, the constant back and forth attitude?!) but you can’t stop listening because the supporting characters are THAT great.

I endured until the final book and loved how much the female lead matured and had growth for herself (and resilience for herself against the prince).

I caught my eyes rolling many times at how gross it felt to listen to a female lead who “doesn’t care what people think of her” bend over backwards for the ridiculous bipolar-ish mannerisms of the Prince when she had so many other options.

Overall, I did enjoy the read: war scenes were great! Just hate reading a woman put herself through such crud for a love interest when there were so many available that made sense without the cringe drama.

Fantastic series from start to finish.

What a fantastic series from start to finish. I listened to the audiobooks for a little over the course of a month, with the complete series clocking in at about 60 hours, and what a glorious 60 hours that was. Filled with adventure, court intrigue and politics, all of which is just a backdrop for the super interesting elemental-based magic system. I adored the main character Vhalla and her journey from library worker to one of the most powerful women in this world. Aldrik was a fantastic counterpart to Vhalla, and I loved their slow (often painfully so) burn romance. ⁣

All told, this series has a bit of everything — incredible characters, a beautiful romance, an immersive and rich world and accompanying magic system, with plenty of adventure and danger to keep the pace moving. The narrator did a fantastic job with bringing these characters to life, and she made this series even more of a joy to listen to. This is definitely one of my new favorite series, and certainly one I’ll revisit in the future. 5 stars. ⁣

*Many thanks to Elise Kova for gifting me an audiobook code for review through Book of Matches Media. ⁣

ehhh, is it worth a credit? sure

so as far as a book set goes, I'd say it's worth a credit.
it's pretty slow, I'm on book 3, and it doesn't seem like a whole lot of anything has really happened.
at the end of book one, vicktor says "soon you'll be asked an important question, and I need you to say no"
and I'm almost done with book 3 and still haven't had said "question" pop up

the author is doing Daniel dirty, Some of the characters are flat, the younger prince is gaining more personality as the older one loses his the further we get into the books.

some scenes are way too drawn out, while others are not described nearly enough.

by far the most interesting character is Daniel, or the "Heartbreaker prince"
and they're just side characters.
the two MC's are boring really. and the politics aren't interesting enough unfortunately.
