About this listen
All Vhalla wanted for her seventeenth birthday was a book.... What she got was the attention of a dark and fiery prince and a rare elemental magic.
After unknowingly saving the life of the crown prince with powers she's not supposed to have, Vhalla must make a choice: Embrace her sorcery and leave the quiet life she's known, or eradicate her magic entirely.
But the choice isn't hers alone. Powerful forces who want to use her magic for their own gain lurk in the shadows, and the only ally Vhalla may have is the cut-throat Crown Prince Aldrik. He's everything she's been taught to fear—a sorcerer and royalty—but beneath his harsh exterior is the heart of a tortured man she finds herself dangerously drawn to.
He might be the last person she ever wanted. But he's the one person she needs. And, with his training, she'll show the Empire what a quiet library girl is truly capable of.

Still one of the best series I have ever read
When I first read this series book one didn't grip me, but the narrator gave a whole different experience and honestly made every moment in this series enjoyable. This story has everything that you could want from relatable characters, realistic relationship development as well as being an incredibly entertaining story.
Vhalla get's 'awoken' into her powers in a pretty spectacular way, and after she is told she struggles with the notion that she is now a sorcerer. Ironic, seeing as her powers are highly sought after and thought to be something that doesn't exist any more. Once aware of her new state she is given a choice to accept her new fate and train as a sorcerer or eradicate her powers completely. I love how the character progression between Vhalla and Aldrik goes throughout the book and although much of the first half the book focuses on her overcoming her misinformed perception of sorcerers and fear of rejection by her friends, it's definitely worth the read.
The pacing definitely slows down a little with book two, which is amazing because you can delve further into the story and fall in love, but there's a lot more action to compensate. Although this book furthered the story, I feel it focused more on developing characters. The side characters in this book are fantastic and really make the story flow. The ending will have you on the edge on your seat too.
Earth's End picks up right where Fire's Falling ends, and thankfully satisfies all our questions about whats happened. While Vhalla may be the Emperor's pawn she's also a force to be reckoned with. Thankfully the self-doubting Vhalla is gone and has been replaced with the girl who knows she's more powerful than everything thinks, and there are several parts of the book where she showcases her affinity for her powers.
There are a few new characters introduced in Earth's End, which means new alliances are formed, as well as the rift between the princes being to close. I also love how the character development means there's a sibling-esque relationship between Baldair and Vhalla. Some characters get neglected a little as well but it's all for a good reason. Just like Fire's Falling, we are left with another cliff hanger, as well as some explosive twists and turns which take note on character and reader emotions.
By the time we get to Water's Wrath you, as a reader, will feel like you have been through everything with Vhalla. She's gone from being a shy librarian to a powerful Windwalker. There will be times where you had doubts for Prince Aldrik but I promise you this book will make you wish you hadn't! I had tears in my eyes at some points in this book and words cannot describe how much I loved it. Devoured in one morning!
Crystal Crowned is everything you want in a book for the end of a series. It's dark, ugly and bleak, you're emotions are constantly thrown from good to bad, happy to crying. Our heroes are doing everything they possibly can to defeat the corrupt evil that has taken over their world, while still holding onto one small bit of happiness.
Overall this series has taken a deep root in my heart and is a must read for every fantasy lover. It's easy to read, as well as gripping from the very start. I well and truly loved this series.

I just love Elise Kova
I was gifted the complete series on audiobook to review, all thoughts and opinions are my own, thank you Elise Kova.
Another great series by Elise Kova. This is not my favourite series of Elise's, but I did thoroughly enjoy the development of Vhalla's character across the series. I felt I had no idea what twist and turn Elise was going to send Vhalla's way and her companions next and there was a lot of hardship along the way.
A great enemies to lovers romance, forced/accidental proximity and found family trope example in this series and I was here for it. The magic system was brilliantly crafted, world building very well written and I really liked how brutal Elise was to these characters. I always like a book that has concequences and some loss for the characters, as that is part of life.
This is not a fairytale and our 'hero' is not welcomed by everyone, everywhere she goes and even those she is helping with her magic do not show their gratefulness for all that she does and sacrifices. I felt for Vhalla, throughout the series but I was glad she got the ending she did. Even if she did make a very silly bargain. I am excited to see how that plays out in the vortex series and how all of these books in this world tie together!
Narrators performance is definitely one of my favourites, I could listen to Caitlin Kelly all day!
Would definitely recommend for YA Fantasy readers, who love magic and a brutal roller-coaster for the main character, with a sprinkling of romance!

Outstanding!
Wow, this series blew me away!
This was my first experience of Elise Kova but definitely not my last. Beautifully written, well developed characters and relationships, great pacing, effective world building and perfect narration.
Caitlin Kelly is one of my favourite narrators and I stumbled upon this series while checking out other works she had narrated.
If i had to compare this with another author/series it would be Sarah J Mass ACOTAR/TOG.

fantastic
I absolutely loved this series, I wonder why I left it so late to actually read/listen to an Elise Kova novel.
The whole series for me was perfection. From the beginning where we're first introduced to Vhalla and Aldrik right to the last page.
Each novel had a different twist and just when I thought it couldn't get any more brutal another turn is upon us - to say this was an emotional rollercoaster is an understatement.
The narrator was absolutely perfect, her voice for each character was just brilliant. she made each one different from the next and you knew exactly who was talking etc. The story played out well and she had a fantastic way of drawing you into the story.
The world building and characters created by Elise Kova was marvellous, the richness and depth of description pulled you effortlessly into the world, that coupled with the narrator made for an excellent story experience.
