too slow and overuse of the same phrases

please please find another word instead of "flesh" it is so overused in this book and in others by these writers, .. I generally like the books but the overuse of certain phrases is ruining it for me.

Good story

I loved the story. It had some good plot twists so it didn’t feel like the same story rehashed. I switched between reading and listening. I found the female narrator’s constant angst ridden vocal very hard to bear. All the female characters had angsty vocals which just made them seem annoying.

A good book, for someone else...

I wanted to like this book. A re-telling of Aladdin with the 40 thieves, genie, magic, princess, etc. I loved the much lighter and more humorous Ruthless Boys of the Zodiac, and I hoped for something similar. And yet... this is the first time in a long time that it was hard for me to get through the book. I'm sure this is a great story... for someone else. It's high fantasy rather than paranormal. Think horses and swords instead of cars and phones.

There are two main females and two main males. 9 hours in, nothing has happened. Not all the characters have met each other and the only characters I like are our insane Kyra and the humor of Drake a bit. If I was reading this rather than listening, I'd be fast skimming the chapters with Cassius and Austyn since they are so amazingly boring, especially Austyn. Austyn's character is just so cringe worthy for most of the story. 'oh won't someone save me! I've been stuck for years with my wicked step mother! And no one notices!' We get that her situation is horrible and stifling, but chapter after chapter after chapter showing just how horrible she has it... it doesn't add much to the story except length. And usually I'm all for longer audible books, more listening time for my credit, but I think this is one of the few times I wished that the story was shorter.

After about 10 hours, it felt like the story finally started.

After about 11 hours, one of the main characters finally meets up with other characters.

Halfway through I find that I'm starting to actually care about 3 of the 4 characters (sorry Austyn) and the plot has my attention enough that I sorta want to continue listening. I'm always worried when a chapter ends that the next chapter will be from Austyn's perspective.

18 hours in, I just gave up. I'll probably come by to this again in a few years when the series is done. We know this will end up on a cliffhanger anyways.

A retelling to fall in love with

When your favourite authors bring you a whole new world to fall in love with. Filled with a delicious bad boy, a fallen good guy, the beautiful princess and a villain we hate. Throw in a magical Fae from old and one hell of an adventure! Obviously it wouldn’t be a twisted sisters story if they made the journey easy and the ending anything less than shocking.
This is one of the very few high fantasy books I’ve read/ listened to. It’s not my usual go to trope but the narrators are some of my favourites and the authors are amazing so I knew I could trust them with giving us a great story.

What A Ride

I read the book initially before listening to it again through Bridget and Jake who truly brought it all to life. Amazing!

Kyra is everything.

Story: 4 ⭐️
Steam: 1 🔥 no smut
Audio: 5 🎧

If you’re here for the romance, be patient. It will probably be in the next book 😂 we get morsels of romance here but mostly just setting up the world building and getting to know the characters. On that note-

I would burn the world down for Kyra. I love her with my whole being.

Drake is hilarious and his relationship with Kyra was my favorite part of this whole book. She’s so funny and I love their banter. Drake gave me Aladdin meets Flynn Rider vibes and I adore him.

Austyn is boring af lol I didn’t like it when her chapters came up cause she just gave me way too many damsel in distress vibes.

I like Cas. Not as much as Drake and Kyra though.

This story is very much a retelling of Aladdin. And it was fun. Not my favorite from the sisters but I’m definitely going to come back for more!

games a plenty

This story will definitely leave you on the edge of your seat. The sisters know how to draw you in, and pull out all the stops to make sure you are wanting more and more. Just when you think everything is going one way, they of course drive us right off the cliff and leave us hanging. I am curious as to what happens next.
Jake and Bridget are amazing as always and make you feel like you are part of the story

I don't know how I feel about this.

Good story, good world building, good characters. Lots of doom and gloom but what else can you expect from the sisters. Hopefully the next book isn't as gut-wrenching but I highly doubt that. Bridget and Jake are fantastic as usual.

Is there a plot ?

I’m 6 hours in and still there is no plot…what is the point of all of these characters ? The voices can also be a little annoying to listen to. I expected better but it’s a story I could have definitely skipped. Also, don’t expect a spicy book; there is just some raunchy talk.

So that is the ending of this book huh? Right there? After that? Is it too early to ask how long we have to wait for book 2? Asking for a friend? No, I will own that question, I am asking for myself!

This is also a fairytale retelling of Aladdin, which was my favorite movie as a kid. So give me what is sure to be an epic story based on it from two of my favorite authors? (Insert the Futurama gif of Fry saying “shut up and take my money”)

This book is so good. I love Austyn, Cassius, Drake & Kyra. This cast is all so different. Austyn, the hidden away princess who is being sold off to the winner of the games. Cassius, the kings guard who has Al sacrificed his freedom to protect the kingdom’s royalties. Drake, the street rat (see what I did there?) who steals to survive. Finally, Kyra, the quirky genie who has spent way too much time alone, but is slowly finding herself again.

I cannot get over these characters & this story. The audiobook of this one is so good! I completely got lost in the story as I listened to it. The narrators did a phenomenal job!

The world building is amazing & I need so many answers. I have a feeling the pain and anguish is only beginning.

A little slow to start

This book was a little slow to start, took me a few chapters to fall in love with the characters. It left me imagining what was next and found myself squeezing in an extra 15 minutes here and there. I quite enjoyed it overall.

Not their best work

Normally I live the sisters work, but I just could not get into this book. Maybe it gets great, but after halfway in I’m quitting, it’s just too slow.

This book is so hard to get through

I wonder if they are paid by the word. There is so much unnecessary description and regurgitation of information. It’s also pretty cringe with the characters. Very 1 dimensional. I hope the authors don’t read this, because I don’t want to seem mean… but Jesus Christ. It’s truly terrible.

Well… that was different

I love both of these authors but this book was out of the norm. I did finally finish it and was proud I made it through! It was more of dungeons and strange meet princess with evil step mom. If this is your thing great but I won’t be purchasing the next book.

Eh… I finished it….

It has more of a dungeons and dragons meets Aladdin vibe… I managed to get through it, but it’s very repetitive… It does end on a cliffhanger, and I’m debating on whether or not it’s even worth listening to the second book when it comes out.

The characters are interesting, especially the “Jinn” in the coin… the narrators are great as those two always are… if it wasn’t for them I doubt I would’ve been able to get through the book.
