About this listen

Now a major BBC Drama as part of the series In the Dark, this is a gripping, brilliantly plotted thriller from number one best-selling author Mark Billingham.

Discover one of the two masterful hit novels adapted for the massive new BBC One Drama series In The Dark, featuring brilliant heroine Helen Weeks.

Two schoolgirls are abducted in the small, dying Warwickshire town of Polesford, driving a knife into the heart of the community where police officer Helen Weeks grew up. But this is a place full of secrets, where dangerous truths lie buried.

When family man Stephen Bates has been arrested, Helen and her partner Tom Thorne head to the flooded town to support Bates' wife - an old school friend of Helen's - who is living under siege and convinced of her husband's innocence.

As residents and media bay for Bates' blood, a decomposing body is found. The police believe they have their murderer, but one man believes otherwise. With a girl still missing, Helen sets herself on a collision course with local police, townsfolk - and a merciless killer.

The hugely acclaimed latest novel in Mark Billingham's best-selling series, Love Like Blood, is out now.

Any additional comments?

This is a superbly written book and superbly read by the author. When the author reads his own work I believe it adds a great deal to the audio book. What a treat, thank you.

Good but not great

This one took a little time to get going for me and the reader seems to lack the "timing" of other readers which is a surprise given that he is the author of the book. I honestly thought I was listening to Jasper Carrott at times although I really do like the voice he gives for the Phil Hendrix character. Once the story did get moving it was very enjoyable and I am looking forward to further adventures with Tom Thorn as long as we don't get an American reader.

Brilliant

I love the D.I. Tom Thorne series. Thorne is a complex man not always able to verbalise his empathetic side but in his dogged determination to catch murderers he is outstanding.
Because the theme of this series includes the darkest side of crime there are obviously some graphic descriptions some listeners will probably find disturbing. However what I love about Mark Billingham's stories is the dry humour between Thorne and his friend Dr. Phil Hendricks, Senior Pathologist. They make me laugh out loud!
I thoroughly recommend this excellent series.

Another Winner

Another winning title in the Tom Thorne series. I admit I am totally hooked and can't wait to hear the next in the series. Thank goodness I discovered them a little late in the day so don't have to wait for the next thrilling book to be written.
