Summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of It Ends with Us, Colleen Hoover’s bestselling Slammed series comes to its gripping conclusion. There are two sides to every love story. Now hear Will’s.

Layken and Will’s love has managed to withstand the toughest of circumstances, and the young lovers, now married, are beginning to feel safe and secure in their union. As much as Layken relishes their new life together, she finds herself wanting to know everything there is to know about her husband, even though Will makes it clear he prefers to keep the painful memories of the past where they belong.

Still, he can’t resist his wife’s pleas, and so he begins to untangle his side of the story, revealing for the first time his most intimate feelings and thoughts, retelling both the good and bad moments, and sharing a few shocking confessions of his own from the time when they first met.

In This Girl, Will tells the story of their complicated relationship from his point of view. Their future rests on how well they deal with the past in this final installment of the beloved Slammed series.

Slammed regurgitated

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

Had the re-telling of Slammed from Will's POV actually provided any new insight, had Will's character sounded like the 22 year old man he was supposed to be rather than the 16 year old girl that he came across as, and maybe if the romance wasn't so sickly sweet it was vomit-inducing, then maybe it would have been worth 3 stars.

Would you ever listen to anything by Colleen Hoover again?

Never again thanks to this rip off

Would you be willing to try another one of Kirby Heyborne’s performances?

Yes

What character would you cut from This Girl: A Novel?

All of them

Any additional comments?

What a complete waste of time and money. Hoover clearly ran out of ideas, which is not surprising since Will & Leykan's story reached the end of the line in POR. So what you get instead is Slammed regurgitated. Frankly, this author should be able to do better than this. Perhaps she was under contractual obligation to produce a trilogy and this was her only way out, but that does not let her off the hook. I wish I could get a refund.

Samey

The story is like a repeat of the second book.

I also wished they had changed Wills voice ruined the performance.

✫✫ 4 Stars ✫✫

While I am not a fan of reverse POV books because I already know the story but I will admit since this one went from past to present and we still got new parts to the story I did enjoy it. The past parts were really the same as book 1 but the current day was sweet. I loved seeing the end of their story. Now I'm just hoping the boys get a story someday too...HINT HINT ;)

The narration was good but i'll admit I felt like Lake should have had a southern accent from book 1 and now that she gets one in the final book it was weird.

A Good Conclusion to the Series

What did you love best about This Girl: A Novel?

Finally, a great narrator. Thank you for bringing Kirby into the mix. He made the last book. I also enjoyed the conclusion to the series.

Have you listened to any of Kirby Heyborne’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have listened to his books. He always does a great job. His performance in this book was consistent with his other books, very good.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The Slams very awesome! Well done!

Good, but seems like a re-cap

What made the experience of listening to This Girl: A Novel the most enjoyable?

I really liked the narrator for this book. He has a lot of emotion and really captures the feel of the conversations without being over the top.

Would you be willing to try another book from Colleen Hoover? Why or why not?

I would. I like the plot of her stories and there are some funny moments that are written well.

What about Kirby Heyborne’s performance did you like?

The way he was able to differentiate between characters (not just accents, but the mood and tone as well) and the emphasis on the emotion being conveyed--without being over the top. There are a couple scenes where Layken is really upset with Will and he just captures it perfectly.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Not really. There's nothing about this book that's new from the first two books. It's just in Will's perspective. I won't give it away, but there's one thing in particular that happens that the audience didn't know about from Layken's perspective, but otherwise, nothing new.

Any additional comments?

I would recommend the book if you're just not done listening to the series, otherwise, you could skip it and not miss anything. I had this on in the backround while doing other stuff and was still able to follow it because none of the plot was new. The only real difference is that we don't hear more from Gavin, Will and Layke's brothers, or Layken's best friend.

75% of the book is review

Any additional comments?

I really liked the first two books, even though I've never met a guy that mature and responsible at that age. But, I was disappointed that the characters kept talking about the past. I really wanted to know what their married life was going to be, what they decided to do with their lives at such a young age and how they raised the boys. The only exciting and unique part of the story was at the end, the epilogue.

If you want to know more about what Will was thinking and why he did what he did, this is your book. It explains it all. Happy reading/listening.

Another Great Read by Colleen Hoover

This Girl was another great read by Colleen Hoover. It is book three in the Slammed series. Layken and Will may be young but they have become a stronger couple through tough circumstances. They now find themselves married. They are very happy together but Layken finds herself wanting to know everything possible about Will. They decide to talk about everything, the good and the bad. I loved reading Will tell Layken about their tough relationship from his point of view. This was another great read by Colleen Hoover and I can't wait to read more by the author.

Disappointed

Do you think This Girl: A Novel needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No

Any additional comments?

I listened to the 3rd book immediately after the first 2. There was almost no new material in it. Might have been good if I had not read the other books. Still wondering whether I would be justified in sending it back.

wish the narrator was the same as point of retreat

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes LOVED all 3 books.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Kirby Heyborne?

The same guy in Point of Retreat - Kamran R. Khan so the guys were the same but I would of picked a different guy for both didn't sound like "Will" would sound in the books

Why did I even bother?

Any additional comments?

So I didn't fall in love with the first two books. But this book was a huge disappointment. The story was just the male main character reminiscing about the events in the first two books but his version was not all that different. I did not like hearing the same story. I also hated the narrator's voice. I only got this book b/c I was curious about what happens to the characters & I was hoping it would get better...it didn't.

New narrator

Narrator needs a change should have been narrator from point of retreat. I loved this book though
