Summary

A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Critic reviews

“Narrators Brittany Pressley and Ryan West depict a story of triumph in a hopeless situation.… The audiobook has excellent pacing and gives equal attention to the relationships among Kenna, Ledger, and Diem. Pressley so expertly illustrates Kenna's desperation that listeners will hope for her redemption. While the two narrators have opposite approaches, West as gruff Ledger and Pressley as wilted Kenna, they complement each other as the audiobook progresses.”AudioFile Magazine

“Hoover delves deep into grief and guilt to create a multifaceted redemption story for a cast of characters who fight as fiercely as they love. Fans won’t be disappointed.”Publishers Weekly

“With captivating dialogue, angst-y characters, and a couple of steamy sex scenes, Hoover has done it again.”Kirkus Reviews

Colleen Hoover does it again!

I inhaled this book the day it was released and couldn’t stop listening. I was moved to tears several times, and loved the way the author builds up the tension of the story by trickling details of the characters lives out slowly.

The narrators have an excellent performance and brought the story to life. I can’t wait for Hoover’s next book.

Brilliant!!

Amazing story line and really fab narration by the voice actors. I really enjoyed the audiobook all throughout and made you want to finish it to know more. I loved the chemistry between the two characters and I loved the way it was written in both their views. Definitely would recommend!

Disappointed after rave reviews

OK, so first of all let me say that this is not my usual genre of book so this book is not aimed at me as its target audience. Also, I am probably at least 10 years older than the target market so my 3 star review is no way saying that I don't like Colleen Hoover books or her writing. I read Layla and Verity and loved both but it was the thriller/supernatural elements that I enjoyed rather than the romantic elements of the books.
However, after being bombarded with rave reviews for literally every Colleen Hoover book out there, in particular this one, I decided to give it a go. I went into it feeling optimistic that I too would be swept up in the romance and heart break and was fully prepared for a breakdown to ensue after the book ended! unfortunately, it fell flat for me. I found the book dull in parts, predictable and also struggled to connect with any of the characters. Like I said this could be because years of reading thrillers has turned my heart to stone and is not a reflection on the book!
For me, it was an OK listen. Passed a few hours for me whilst I was doing some chores but I won't be rushing out to buy any more Hoover romances anytime soon. I would consider another of her thrillers though.

Well narrated

Enjoyed the 2 person narration, it really enhanced the 2 view points used in this book.
Tears are expected with a Colleen Hoover book but the audio version is on another level, the emotions were very well portrayed and communicated so strongly that I almost felt like I was feeling them.

Well written book

I’ve read all of Colleen Hoover’s books and am a huge fan of her style of writing. This particular book did not disappoint and held true to her writing style. The plot was solid, the characters were very relatable and the overall storytelling process was well-done. If you are a Colleen Hoover fan or just looking for a good book to start reading from her, this is a good start. There of course is tragedy in the book as there is in almost all of her books, but this one had a good sense of hope that keeps you reading. Overall enjoyable read.

Oh my weary heart..

Well, It’s a little hard to see what I am typing through the tears that have been flowing out of my eyes for the past two hours but what an emotional and incredible journey that Colleen Hoover just took me on. I am not sure how it’s possible but I feel like the learning curve I was exposed to of loss and perception in this book has helped shape my mind a little. Thank you Colleen Hoover! ❤️❤️

I have read all the books by Colleen Hoover

I loved this story. It didn't make me cry like most of her books do, but it was still great, very heartfelt.
