Summary

Bearded, bad-boy barber Knox prefers to live his life the way he takes his coffee: Alone. Unless you count his basset hound, Waylon.

Knox doesn’t tolerate drama, even when it comes in the form of a stranded, runaway bride.

Naomi wasn’t just running away from her wedding. She was riding to the rescue of her estranged twin, to Knockemout, Virginia, a rough-around-the-edges town where disputes are settled the old-fashioned way....With fists and beer. Usually in that order.

Too bad for Naomi, her evil twin hasn’t changed at all. After helping herself to Naomi’s car and cash, Tina leaves her with something unexpected. The niece Naomi didn’t know she had. Now, she’s stuck in town with no car, no job, no plan, and no home - with an 11-year-old going on 30 to take care of.

There’s a reason Knox doesn’t do complications, or high-maintenance women, especially not the romantic ones. But, since Naomi’s life imploded right in front of him, the least he can do is help her out of her jam. And just as soon as she stops getting into new trouble, he can leave her alone, and get back to his peaceful, solitary life.

At least, that’s the plan, until the trouble turns to real danger.

Love is ageless

Finally. A thick story in the sense that it actually holds a real grip with reality.
It had great writing, good story, fine characters and excellent fiction mixed with steam, angst, humor and s e x .
Thanks Mrs Score, I needed that.

Loved it, romantic and funny!

I loved this book, it was funny, romantic and super satisfying. However there were just so many major red flags in the behaviour in their relationship which was great for the dramatics but wouldn’t be acceptable irl. Also, there were some pretty scary situations which the characters had hilarious 1 liner reactions to, but I can’t help but think the average person would have been traumatised from! Not cracking jokes! But the book was beautifully written and if you can take a step back from reality and immerse yourself in the fiction then it really didn’t matter!

One of the best audiobooks....

There are very few stories which you remember for a very very long time. You truly wish that the story never ends. This particular story/ audiobook is magic. I have no words to praise the author and the extraordinary narrators. Every word, every chapter was magic. Sheer ecstasy. Pure love and all the beautiful emotions that you can only dream to live in a story. So, thank you Lucy Score and thank you my favorite narrators, the whole team actually on behalf of us the readers/listeners for gifting us this "piece of heaven". Regards.

Awful really…

Since I’d spent a credit on it I listened to it in full… rather than giving up on first chapter.. so that’s why it has two stars rather than one! Cheesy romance full of men mansplaining & telling women what they can & can’t do…. And women mainly doing what they’re told or crying … it’s awful!

To much swearing for my taste

Performances were good. Just yo much swearing and explicit sex for me. Not a typical easy rom com. It didn't sound like it had been written by a woman.

Loved it

This is the first book by this author I have read. This series has been all over bookstagram.
My only downfall with this book was that I thought it was too long. But it had some of my favourite tropes. Grumpy/ sunshine, small town, big families, fake dating, age gap, evil twin, runaway bride, to name a few.
I loved the banter and humour are a great addition to the story. I loved that it was between all the different characters, because honestly I loved all of them especially Stef. He stole the show. Know and Noami are a great couple, but I also loved the relationship she developed with her niece and how Know treated the niece.
I loved Knox’s instant regret when he gets scared of his feelings and breaks up with Noami.
A great story that lived up to the hype!

Overly long and clichéd

The immature characters, predictable plot which heavily relies on trobes and a struggle to finish. at least two subplots too many

Cringe

The narrators are great but I could barely get through it. A lot of the ideas are recycled - everything from Kristen Ashley to “Overboard”. The main character is annoying, she’s wound very tight and honestly I wouldn’t want to spend 5 minutes with her. As for the guy, every other page he’s described as a Grumpy Viking. Yes, understood, it’s the grumpy neighbor trope. EXCEPT once a month, during “Code Red”, when he brings his female bartenders stick-on heating pads and brownies and calls his female staff the “Synched Sisters”. Because he TRACKS THEIR CYCLES. As for the female staff, they apparently spend this week eating anything not nailed down and sobbing over nothing in the kitchen. The whole “pretend relationship” plot FIRST STARTS around page 250. So get ready for a slow burn. A slow, slow, slow, slow….well, you get the idea. And there was never was a truly legit reason that she fought against just having a normal relationship with Knox. So in conclusion: annoying, cringe, long and confusing. Dog was cute.

Awful

I got half way through and realized this book was nonsense. I did not enjoy listening to the male narrator. Knox is a deplorable character and I was disgusted by the way the author condones objectifying women. I could not listen to this because it was upsetting, to me and I’m not a prude. The Knox character does not fit the traditional rom-com rules, which I’m all for, but I cannot root for someone I find disgusting.

Great story and narration!

Things We Never Got Over introduces us to a small town in Virginia - Knockemout, and it’s eclectic mix of residents. In true Lucy Score fashion, the author masterfully created yet another quirky community that I absolutely adored. Our protagonists, Naomi and Knox, as well as the dynamic cast of secondary characters are sure to immediately capture your heart.

“Sometimes you don’t need a history to see the future”.

The story is mainly enemies to lovers, with a bit of a mistaken identity but most importantly it’s about taking chances and being brave when love comes calling.
This book has all the hallmarks of a perfect romcom - love, swoon, steam, intrigue, grumpy hero and sunshine heroine, meddling, well meaning friends snd guaranteed HEA.
The narration by Sebastian York and Lila Winters is phenomenal, they have a way of bringing you into the story and making you feel like you are an active participant.
I definitely recommend Things We Never Got Over to all romcom enthusiasts!

One of the stupidest books I’ve ever read!

I cannot in my right mind waste more of my time on this stupid book, so this review has to be short, and therefore, I won’t list all the things wrong with this “literary” abomination, but rest assured, there are A LOT! There are billions of people in this world, and unfortunately, the stupid outnumber the smart. That must be the only reason this book is so hyped up, and has such great reviews—stupid people must have a lot of time on their hands! This was extremely long and repetitive, for no reason other than to showcase another idiot heroine, another Neanderthal hero, and another nonexistent (or ridiculously stupid) plot. This is my second book by this author, and probably my last. Writers need to do their job, and just write a good story! Stop grasping at straws to either brainwash their readers and try to mold their brains with personal opinion easter eggs throughout their writing, or write any garbage they can think of to stay relative in their field, or make a few bucks. I paid $5 for the audiobook on sale, and I wish I would’ve just bought myself a coffee (with the amount of times the heroine in this book mentions she needs coffee)! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️😤

Wow loved 10/10

When I first started this book I was scared because people said it was slow and foul language. I think the language really reflected the different personalities of the two main characters well. I feel like it was a feel good funny amazing story that I couldn’t get enough of. If you want action, love, spice, and drama this book is def for you!!!

Great story ruined

The story line in this book was great, which was the only reason why I listened all the way through, While I am not a prude, the number and detail of the sex scenes were ridiculous and really took away from the story. You would just be getting into the story and you would be put through detailed descriptions of sex. While one or 2 are ok, 30% of the book was devoted to this junk. I just started fast forwarding through them so I could get back to the story. I will not be listening to any other books by this author.

I allllmost got to the end but will just save like two hours of my life

OTT ridiculousness, and not in a cute/funny/hot way. The storytelling just seemed bad, like the characters had no depth.
The MC Naomi is exactly the kind of MC that I’m constantly rolling my eyes at, especially since she’s 36 but from the ridiculousness of literally everything about her, it makes her seem more like 20.
Save your credit.
Not even Sebastian York’s sinfully sexy voice can redeem this one.

Soooo over this book!

I will never get those 10 hours of my life back.

I’ve powered through good books with bad narrators or poorly written books with great narrators that made it palatable to listen until the end…. But OMG I can’t slog it out any longer. I wanted to cry when I saw that I still had 6 hours left of this drivel. I can’t believe that this has so many 5 star reviews and it comes up on lists for the best books of summer 2022. I don’t know who I blame more- the author who wrote every boooooring detail in this trivial story or the editor who was afraid to use a red pen once on this copy and remove 7 hours of painful writing! There was angst in unnecessary places, hysteria when it seemed really out of place and the romance wasn’t convincing or remotely enjoyable. In fact, the characters were really hard to tolerate. The narrators, who I usually like, didn’t help this story either. If you have even the slightest doubt when listening to the sample, save yourself a credit and move along quickly. It only gets worse.

Horribly written

I couldn’t make it past the first few chapters. A grown woman who wears daisies in her hair and is stupid enough to bail out her loser of a sister, an 11 year old girl named Waylay who couldn’t care less that her mother left her, a man left at the alter who has the same exact name and profile as a character from Legally Blonde, and so many words and phrases that made it sound like an 80 year old backwoods grandmother wrote it. It feels like it was written without any research as to what people are like in today’s world. The narration was just okay.
