Summary

From New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Jennifer L. Armentrout comes a new story in her Wicked series....

She’s everything he wants....

Cold. Heartless. Deadly. Whispers of his name alone bring fear to fae and mortals alike. The Prince. There is nothing in the mortal world more dangerous than him. Haunted by a past he couldn’t control, all Caden desires is revenge against those who’d wronged him, trapping him in never-ending nightmare. And there is one person he knows can help him.

She’s everything he can’t have....

Raised within the Order, Brighton Jussier knows just how dangerous the Prince is, reformed or not. She’d seen firsthand what atrocities he could be capable of. The last thing she wants to do is help him, but he leaves her little choice. Forced to work alongside him, she begins to see the man under the bitter ice. Yearning for him feels like the definition of insanity, but there’s no denying the heat in his touch and the wicked promise is his stare.

She’s everything he’ll take....

But there’s someone out there who wants to return the Prince to his former self. A walking, breathing nightmare that is hell-bent on destroying the world and everyone close to him. The last thing either of them needs is a distraction, but with the attraction growing between them each now, the one thing he wants more than anything may be the one thing that will be his undoing.

She’s everything he’d die for....

A Fae Novella

A fae novella, and part of The Wicked series, this audio gives us the beginning of the story of Brighton - a human, part of 'The Order', out to destroy evil fae - and Prince Caden - The Prince of the summer fae.

This audiobook creates a vivid dystopian, fantasy world, with lots of tension, intrigue, deception and jeopardy.

This was a shorter story, and ended on a cliffhanger. There's plenty to whet the appetite if you enjoy fantasy/ fae stories.

Fantastic!

I love pretty much anything JLA writes. she has a wonderful knack for creating suspense and conjuring emotion. The beginning part of Brighton's story is awesome, I can't wait to get in to the next book.

WHAT... I NEED MORE

What a great novella to go with this series I really liked that it wasn’t about Ivy and Ren.
I wanted more closure on The Prince though I don’t think I really got it if anything I have more questions. I hope there is another book because this left us with a perfect open-ended story.

Brighton wasn’t really a side character I thought much about but now that I have read this it really makes sense it was her. I just want more! Lol

The narration again I liked it, I think she does a great job with The Prince's voice and his slight accent.

Prolonged words

The story is good.
The way the narrator prolongs the pronunciations of certain words are irritating. The way she made the fae sound seemed as if the characters were zombies. Would have enjoyed this had the narrator just spoken naturally.

love the story. hate the voice.

especially when the narrator is trying to speak in a low, accented, male voice. it gets grating. the only voice she did that didnt kill me was Tink's... it's a good thing I like the story and am already 3 books invested in the series, or I wouldnt have made it. 😢

Could not listen to the narrator any longer

I loved all the Jennifer Armentrout books. And I thought this narrator did fine in the previous books. But I just couldn't listen to her any longer. Ruined the story for me.

Warning not a novella...Book 1 of another trilogy

First of all I want to point out that this book is definitely not a novella and ends with a major cliffhanger. Like the Wicked trilogy this is book 1 of another trilogy (The Prince, The King and ending with The Queen)
The King was released in July 2019 and I can’t find any audible release date. The Queen is supposed to release sometime in 2020. That said I love this author and this series so far. I strongly suggest to listen/read the wicked trilogy before starting this book. All of the characters develop in the wicked series and you get a better background of the story by finishing that series first. I also heard the wicked series will be a movie released by Passionflix maybe in 2020?
I really wasn’t a fan of Brighton in this book. I thought she was really reckless and immature for someone who was in her 30s and a complete 180 from how she was in the wicked series. I get that she’s changed after her attack however a complete personality change was hard to believe and I really disliked it. However from reading the reviews on book 2 The King she seems to start growing on the readers as I was not the only one who was annoyed with her in this book so I’m looking forward to her character development in book 2.
As a person who has vision issues, audio books are my main method for “reading “ so having to wait months and/or years for another audible to release in a book series is really a pain.
I strongly suggest to wish list this series until all books are out on audible before starting.

Didn't love it

I love JLA books! Thought I had read them all and found this one and felt like I had to read it. The Wicked saga was one of my all time favorites so I couldn't wait to read it. I really didn't love it at all. The narrator has a weird annoying voice where she drags out the end of every sentence and you feel like a a robot is talking. The story was just lacking the usual build up between the two characters. Brighton was just plain boring compared to Ivy. The prince had absolutely no personality at all. I just felt like I couldn't wait for it to be over. Then I thought this was a novella? a standalone book? Nope, there's 3 in this series. I can't continue though. Not loving it.

Ivy is that you?!

Great novella/spin off, however, I found myself forgetting Brighton was Brighton and not Ivy most of the time. The attitudes are fairly similar and at first she had a thick accent (which is what reminded me it wasnt Ivy haha), and then it would come and go... then it was non-existent. The Brighton from the original trilogy seemed way way different. But alas, still a very good story. Moving onto "The King" now.

Could not get past the terrible narration.

First off, I have other Jennifer Armentrout audio books. Loved them. She is an excellent author. I hoped I would love this series, too. However, I could not make it past the second chapter because I found the narration horrible. It sounded autotuned and also sounded like they slowed down the narrator's lines as the Prince. It was borderline comical...I wish it has been an intentional joke but nope. I couldn't listen a moment longer. Returned this one and the next book (The King) since it's the same narrator. Just goes to show that even if the book itself is a masterpiece, the performance makes a huge difference. Its a shame because I was thinking about getting the Wicked series that goes with this, but it is narrated by the same lady that did this one. Not for me. I guess I will re-listen to the Blood and Ash series by Jennifer Armentrout because the narration by Stina Nielsen is flawless in those 2 books.

Awful narration

I've never heard such awful accents for all the male characters. Very off-putting. I would have abandoned the book if I didn't want to read the follow-up book.
