Summary

Plucked out of the Collector’s Pens, auctioned off to a vampire contingent, and sent across the ocean to the Alpha Territories was not exactly how I planned to spend my week.

Actually, scratch that. I had planned the first bit. But I was supposed to be sold to the werewolves so I could save my friend from a fate worse than death. Instead, the bloodsuckers have me and so far? It's not going great. I've been shoved into a corset and made to look like an extra on the cast of Bridgerton, all to take part in the Harvest Games—think The Bachelor set in the 1800s, but the men are all vampires, and then add a decidedly terrifying Squid Games element to the mix.

No problem.

My goal—besides keeping the number of holes in my body to the current norm—is more than surviving. It is escaping the inescapable, finding my way to the werewolf territory, and getting Jordan back.

Cue the political strife.

Armed with nothing more than a super sharp hairpin, my questionable charm, and an irrational amount of optimism, plans to get both me and my bestie out alive are in full swing.

Until the General of the Vampire Army and his molten eyes light me on fire and leave me wondering if escape is what I want after all.

Maybe one extra set of holes wouldn’t be the worst thing ever....

Great narration.

This was a great listening experience, I really enjoyed how the narrators brought the characters and book to life. I loved the slow burn of Sienna and the Generals' romance and was really rooting for B to get her man!

wow slow for at least 12 chapters

This is not Shannon's best books as it is slow repeating the same feelings felt by the two main caracters over and over and over. I gave the book a 4 because the end got more interesting but hesitated for a 3 star.

Vampires, Political Intrigue, & A Spicy Romance?🔥

Audiobook 🎧
Taken by Fate
The Alpha Territories, Book 1
By: Shannon Mayer
Narrated by: Summer Roberts, Tyler Donne
Length: 8 hrs and 26 mins

This came out earlier than the ebook so I grabbed it.😊 I struggled, for about 7 chapters, to enjoy the female voice artist while she was playing the main character, thankfully that settled down and I was able to immerse myself into the story completely. The male voice artist was perfectly grumpy and sexily growly.🔥 He did very well with the feminine voices too!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book overall. I didn't find Sienna particularly likeable initially, which is really unfortunate.😔 It was because she's so hell bent on getting to 'Jordan', but we barely know anything about them or their back-story together. This just made her stubbornness and reckless disregard for her own safety, to get to him, feel so extreme.🤷🏻‍♀️ But Sienna did start to grow on me about half way through, so Yay!🎉😁

The Vampire General was more relatable and the author showed us his heart & motivations, fairly quickly. He is tied in knots by his instant, almost mystical attraction to Sienna. He fears his enemies will use his distraction to strike against his loved ones whilst his focus is split.🥺 And with how vile the Crown Prince is, I'm not surprised as he is just waiting to strike.😟

The world building is all in place and ready to be expanded upon even further in future books.😊 I'm a big fan of both Will and Beth. I really liked the Duchess too. A certain Scottish addition has potential for more as well.😉 As the book progressed, by about half way, it's pace picked right up and gained a whole star in my rating. The whole story felt fuller, more urgent and engaging, the intrigue grew, as did the sexual tension.🔥

My hope for book 2 are that all of our 'good guys' survive, and survive well! That Sienna stays on the newer 'nicer person' path and doesn't revert back to her previous persona.🙏🏼 I'd love the General to give in to his urges a little.😉🔥 And for the traitor to the General to get their comeuppance!💥

Falling off of that cliff at the end was brutal!😲 This really didn't feel long enough, I obviously need more Alpha Territories in my life please, asap.🙏🏼⭐️

makings of a great book, delivery a let down

although I think the concept good, the delivery including the voice, bit if a let down, think I would read rather than listen

So different, but sooo good 👍 👍

Wow is the first word I want to put here first!!

This book is completely different to Shannon's usual books and it's like a breath of fresh air. It's fast paced and keeps you enthralled until you've read and listened to it!!

I'll admit that I had already listened to the audio, prior to the release of the book and I was hooked!!

I had never come across the two narrators used for this audio and they too were like a breath of fresh air!!

Summer Roberts and Tyler Donne kept me listening from start to end with barely a break from the off!! They brought out the personalities of the characters and had you almost holding your breath in places!!

So of course when the book came out, I just had to listen again as I read the book and, if I thought it was good just listening to the audio, it was mind blowing to the highly unsatisfying end!!

Now why did I say unsatisfying??

Because I just didn't want it to end!!

I was depressed when the audio has finished the first time. In fact I may have pouted and trust me when I say, a woman at my age should NEVER be seen, or known, pouting. I'm far too old for such things lol. But pout i did.

But, then the horrid thing was, I felt even more upset at the end of the book when it came, when reading and listening to it!! I stamped a metaphorical foot!!

What a terrible way to finish and we've now got until February to find out what happens next!! How am I supposed to wait for what's to come next!!

So if you want to listen and read a different and brilliant book by Shannon, this is definitely the one to get!! In fact if you just want a really good audio and book, get this one regardless, you certainly won't regret it.

It has everything you need. A spunky, sassy heroine, trying to find her way to the werewolf territories to find her friend and hopefully rescue him. She refuses to accept the status quo and gives her poor maid such a bad headache, that she's either going to end up with a few ulcers at best or an aneurysm at worst.

A dominant male, fighting the attraction and urges he's feeling toward a woman. But not just any woman, no this one is a lowly human whom he bought. Some one not worthy of such a well known and respected General of the Vampires, who's also the bastard son of the King of the vampires!!

How can such a well renowned vampire, allow some human woman bring him such urges. Urges he tries so hard to ignore and not just because of the aforementioned reasons, but also as an honourable General, he must.....no he will not give into them, into Her!!

Yet while all this is going on, she is part of the Harvest Games, with other human women bought for these games!! But while all the other women are working hard to attract the attention of the noble, (both high and low born) vampire men, Sienna is working hard at finding a way to escape and get across the eastern border, in her search of Jordan!!I

Of course will it all work out??

Will the General win his fight against the pull of Sienna, who incidentally finds she too has this pull toward the General.

Can Sienna find a way to escape the vampires and make it to the werewolf territories, without being caught and killed??

All while the King is dying and the Crown Prince is plotting the murder of his younger brother!!

The only way to find out all the answers is to buy both audio and book and thoroughly immerse yourself in the new world order, brought to you by the extremely talented Shannon Mayer!!

LET THE GAMES BEGIN!!!!

Not for the faint-hearted

This is a steamy introduction into the new series. The storyline is interesting and gripping, and every so often a new little tidbit is dangled in front of you. It took me a little time to warm to the voice actors, being a Brit & raising an eyebrow at a couple of pronunciations, but they do become endearing and I encourage you to persevere! It’s a great book and I can’t wait for the next!

A bit different

This is a bit of a departure from Shannon’s usual writing, it takes place in North America after the “falling of the veil”. There a few different lands and Sienna has been captured and sold to the vampire clan. it took me a while to warm to the main characters accent she is English but the narrator has made her sound very upmarket when her background suggests she should be much more Working class. I forgot that pretty quickly though and warmed to the characters.
The General aka Dominic is sexy and incredibly torn in his response to Sienna. It’s a great start and I look forward to more in the series.

Fabulous new story

I planned on getting caught, I just didn't plan on getting sent to the Vampires.

This is an excellent new series buy a truly talented author. Written with a good pace and strong characters it tells of Sienna who deliberately lets herself be caught in an effort to rescue her brother who had been taken by the Werewolves. The only flaw, The Vampires are buying today!
I especially enjoyed the two narrators for this book as it brought an extra dimension to the story.
