Summary

Avegaaren Academy.

Where heroes compete, legends are born, and the heart of the Imperium’s might.

Erik and Rugrat’s abilities will be pushed to the limit, honing their skills and allowing them to grow in new ways, ways they might not have thought of before.

They stand to gain more than simple strength and more power.

Here they might learn the purpose of the realms, how it was formed, why it was formed, and the three races that weaved their fates together against the darkness.

Shorter and Shorter

I used to love these books they were a good length and I liked the performance.
Then it started to go down hill cutting one book into two parts (let's get the customer to pay twice 🙄)
Now they can't even be bothered to put any effort in and get it over 10hrs long. although I am looking forward to the next book which will probably just be bullet points. very very disappointing.

The story is getting old

The story feels like no effort has been put into it, Michael Chatfield seems to be more concerned with regurgitating the same old, instead of developing the story this is a half baked short novel and not worth the money, and why release the first book again just why??

feeling really upset as this was a good original story

Short an rushed

I agree with other reviewers, this part feels even more rushed than the last one. On one hand it's great that we didn't have to wait for years, but then the content is rather disappointing. Looking forward to the next part even though I have a feeling I already know how it will go.

Absolutely Amazing!

A brilliant addition to the series, truly fantastic. My only sadness about this book is with all the people who complained about all the multiple POV’s of previous books, because to me Alva and the people of Alva almost became as integral to these books as Eric and Rugrat and in this book we stick mostly with Eric and Rugrat for the full book. However, I completely understand why that writing decision was made. I can’t wait for the 10th realm and I really hope that there is a spin-off series with the nation of Alva!

Author is milking it for all it’s worth. Shorter with another drop in quality!

Damn the books are getting shorter and shorter. With the lack of quality one has to ask themselves if it’s worth the money.

The story is basically another tournament that is interrupted and makes it an unnecessary. Again a a lot of POV changes with fluff that doesn’t engages. There is some magic progression but not much. World building is so lacking I can’t imagine what the 7th, 8th or how the 9th real look like etc…

Bad cliffhanger. The ending is just a setup to buy the last book.

Will not buy

I love your stories but this is rediculous. You should have combined this book with the last book. (To make a 15 hour book which is still on the short side). You are getting greedy. I not pay a token for a 6 hour book.

WTF was that.

This series has been a favorite of mine since the beginning. When they switched narrators it was so jarring that I had to stop listening for a while. When I came back to the series I fell back in love with it. This book however is absolute garbage. There is ZERO exposition and it reads like entire sections have been removed. Nearly every chapter is a time skip and there is no character development for the new characters. Characters will hate Eric and Rugrat in one chapter and will all of a sudden be smitten with them without any reason. This installment in the series is a giant waste of time and for the most part feels like they were trying to speed up the series ending. I pray that this was a one time thing due to unforseen circumstances and the remaining books are back to previous standards.

Chatfield officially joins the rapidly growing cash grab club.

I was very disappointed by the previous book in this series because it was the first one that clocked in at under 10 hours… More importantly it only told about half of the story and didn’t even try to pretend that it was a self-contained episode in the series.

In my review of The Eighth Realm I worried that Mr. Chatfield was following the trend of other authors like Eric Ugland, where the books are arbitrarily subdivided into 7 to 9 hour chunks in what is hard to see as anything other than trying to get us to spend more credits for an inferior product.

Now if these authors made any attempt to actually write these shorter installments as though they were fully fleshed out stories, and they weren’t preceded by 26 hour-long audiobooks, you could make an argument in their favor. Unfortunately, if we look back at this series, the shortest installment prior to the 8th Realm was 13+ hours and the rest of the books average around 20-21 hours.

I understand that authors and narrators gotta eat and I wouldn’t feel any anger at an author who wanted to charge more than one credit for a 22+ hour audiobook. But breaking those books up into underwhelming half-books isn’t the way to go about treating loyal fans who have stuck with you through 10 books in a series. You’re certainly not gonna get anymore Patreon support from me either.

So while I did really enjoy listening to this book, I feel I have no choice but to one-star this review. If you see other authors doing this with their book series, please join me in panning their reviews. Short of not continuing the series or illegally downloading the audiobooks, it’s the only way we can communicate with the authors and (more importantly) their publishers in a way that actually has a direct effect.

Er’body knows that complaining about things on Facebook isn’t much of a way to motivate change.

So join me in letting these authors know that I don’t want to experience audiobooks in 7-hour, truncated bits every 2 months. I’d vastly prefer listening to a whole book even if that means paying more and waiting longer.

not finished?

feels like they edited out more the store than what they actually released. I hope the next book is more like the first few books in length and story.

Writers Block or Greed

I live the characters, story and the performance. However, the last two books feel less - too many story lines glossed over. as much as I hate to say it, the value of the book is less than the purchase price or one credit.. I hope the author and the publisher get their act together.

Fans are spoiled....

First. This entry into the series was shorter than others. I personally enjoyed the book, having listened to much longer books that were worse. Mr. Chatfield I have greatly enjoyed the Ten Realms series so far. Please disregard your toxic fans and keep up the great work!

Short and to the point

Sticks closely to the perspective of our guys Eric and RugRat. Moves the story into what feels like the last arc and gets out protagonists power levels to a competitive point. Looking forward to the next but sad it feels like it is ending.

Another Home run!!

I love this series!! The lead characters keep evolving, they started as guys I can remember serving with now they are the men I want to become. I love this book but don’t start here, start at the beginning. Also, Chatfield has several other series on audible they are ALL great character driven stories. Bravo Zulu
