With their father missing and their mother suddenly passing, Esme and Gabriel are forced to track down their estranged grandfather in Lincolnshire. Cold and unwelcoming, he is reluctant to take them in, but aware of his standing as the village vicar, he knows must protect his reputation, and allow the children to stay with him.

Esme's relief at finding refuge soon turns to despair when Gabriel is sent to boarding school, leaving her alone in their grandfather's unhappy home. But the house isn't as empty as it first appeared and Esme, with her unusual gift of being able to see spirits, begins to encounter the ghosts of young women in the abandoned rooms and dark corridors of the rectory. The women are trapped between this world and the next, seeking help from Esme and leaving her with a mystery to solve if she is to stand a chance of establishing a peaceful, happy life.

An emotional and heartfelt story - makes you realise just how much abuse does go on in family households and schools. I truly enjoyed this storyline and Charlie Sanderson is by far my favourite narrator.

I thoroughly enjoyed the book. But sadly the narrator spoilt it for me. Her voice was ok, but it was the same for every character and at times I wasn’t sure which character she was supposed to be. But I persevered as I was enjoying the story. This is only my personal opinion and others make like the narrator. Either way I would t put you off listening to it.

I love love Rosie goodwin's books and the narrator Charlie Sanderson. I could listen to her voice all day long. she tells the story so well this book I couldn't put it down I listened to it in two days it was so great. highly recommend this book 👌 ❤️

This book is no exception to every other book you write, I could cry for the people and the heartache that threads through your writing and I just melt at the end.

Also the lady that reads your stories is just amazing and makes it real through listening on audible. I honestly just buy the next book straight away and wonder if you will write a 2nd book with these characters and hearts
