Summary

The war isn’t going well.

In five years of heavy fighting, humanity and its alien allies have steadily been pushed back toward Earth, toward the very heart of humanity itself. The virus is steadily wearing the defences down, mounting campaign after campaign to infect and enslave every other alien race. The only hope rests with newer and better weapons, with technology that may turn the tide, but can the weapons and starships be deployed in time?

HMS Lion and HMS Unicorn are two new ships, designed to take the war to the enemy and tip the balance of power in humanity’s favor. But with untested technology, clashes between their commanding officers and trouble belowdecks, they may find themselves facing more than they can handle....

...And the odds of coming home are very low.

Great story, shame about the accents

This is another great story. My only gripe is the Liverpool accents. They were cliched, false and indistinguishable from a Scottish accent. When the story centred around Marigold and Tobious I struggled to tell that they came from different parts of England. Minor points that marred an excellent story.

Starting to drag on a bit now

I'm sure this story thread is going to get to a conclusion but there is a definate repition that feels like "filler" to this story. It wont stop me moving on to the next but I hope that we get to where we are going sooner rather than later

Most boring in series

Relationships, side stories, and little fighting. Book was most boring and a waste of time. Having Book 15 seems to be milking a good story and destroying it. Greatest regret making this purchase.

Raph Lister on the other hand saves the book with a 4-star performance. Even Mr Lister can't Perform a miracle on a dead story.

Not to the same high standard as books 1 to 14

It is enjoyable but not as good as the previous, just could not get into it as fully, could not immerse myself and asza result have put down book 16 after the first chapter to listen to a different author in the hope that this allows me to restart book 16 with a more open mind.

I have 22 of Mr Nuttall's books and consider myself a fan of his work.
