Summary

It's the moment that Harmony Island has been waiting for: the reading of Charlotte Cane's will.

After I returned to my small hometown six months ago to attend my estranged grandmother's funeral, I swore I would never go back. That is, until my grandmother's lawyer calls me up. If I don't return to Harmony Island and fulfill my grandmother's stipulations, the generationally owned family inn will be turned over to the state and sold off to the highest bidder—my grandmother's rival and mother to the man who broke my heart, Missy Willis.

I'm not sure I'm strong enough to return home, but I also know, I can't let Miss Willis win. So I pack up my belongings and head for North Carolina.

I'm determined to stay distant, living in the small cottage next to the inn, and keep my head down. But in a small town where everyone knows your name, that becomes difficult. Soon, my past catches up with me, and I'm faced with the history I've buried for so long. Just when I reach my breaking point, Miles, the single dad living at the inn, swoops in to my life to rescue me. He was my protector in my childhood, my enemy in my teenage years, and now?

Now, I'm not so sure. Especially when his love for his daughter is contagious, or the way he looks at me when he doesn't know I see him. I'm so confused, and I want to run away like I did in the past, but I can't. And when Miles touches me like that...I don't want to.

Luckily, I find a friend in Abigail, the local bookstore owner. She's one of the only residents who doesn't know about my past and seems to be looking for the same thing I am, a place to belong.

The Inn on Harmony Island is chock full of romance, redemption, and forgiveness. If you're looking for your next summer story, grab your copy today! It is the first book in the Sweet Tea and a Southern Gentleman series and ends on a cliff-hanger.

little disappointed

I was kind of hoping it was going to be one of those books where they didn't know each other. Also kinda weird for it to be her step brother on chapter 3 right now. gonna finish it cause I used my credits. a little disappointed 😑.

Not great

Beyond disappointed I couldn’t return this and get my credit back. Using the same person to narrate all views? Terrible mistake. The male role sounds god awful. Couldn’t even get into the book because of this. Probably not even going to finish this and am annoyed at how poorly this was all done. So much hype for nothing.

The Hallmark Movie of Books

If you like Hallmark movies, this story is basically the book form of those. It's *really* cheesey and predictable (except for the cliffhanger, which I did not expect), and I definitely rolled my eyes several times throughout the book. Like other reviewers, at times I was annoyed by the main character's exaggerated emotional immaturity, and the mediocre writing (a lot of telling you how things are instead of showing you how they are, if that makes sense). Lots of cliche stereotypes and repetitive descriptors (like "his/her eyes widened". At one point I imagined the character's eyes as wide as they get when you hold them open with your fingers because they kept getting wider throughout that interaction). I also didn't love the narrator, especially when she used different voices for different characters. That was harder to get past for me.

But if you're looking for a light, easy listen to break things up, this book isn't a bad choice. It's cute, despite the things I mentioned above, just like Hallmark shows. I'll probably end up listening to the other two books when they come out because I do like the cheese factor every now and then.

I wanted to love this book but I just couldn’t

I believe this story line has a lot of potential, it just needs to be executed differently. The main character is a roller coaster of emotion and is extremely toxic (in my opinion). I wanted to shake sense into her and send her off to therapy. It was incredibly difficult for me to listen to her and I pushed myself to finish the book. I did not realize this was a series so I was extremely disappointed to get to the end and it’s a huge cliff hanger. I will not be listening to book 2.

slow, bland, just disappointing

struggled to finish is an understatement but I wasn't gonna waste my money so I gave this book every chance I could and finished it knowing it would leave at a cliffhanger by the end and hoping the cliffhanger would be good enough to make me want to read the next one, not even close. I could not get behind the narrator at all either usually I can deal but it was not good for this book in any way.

Not worth listening to

The story droned on and on. The characters where more like young teenagers with who didn’t know how to express themselves. The reading was so monotone it made the book hard to listen to. I couldn’t even finish the book got half way through and couldn’t listen any further.

Cute story

I enjoyed the story, but I wish it wasn’t left on a cliffhanger. I wish I knew that before buying it. A bit disappointed.

not worth it

Struggle. Didn't finish. Writer constantly retelling same details over and over and over. It seems the writer can't believe reader/listener is able to remember anything from two paragraphs ago so the writer must reiterate same details AGAIN!! Story line has promise but only if someone else writes it. Voice reader person monotone, ugh.
