Critic reviews

"The writing is as smooth as polished steel, and the small touches that reveal character, especially the memorable Hen, approach genius. This is Lovesey at his best." (Publishers Weekly)

The House Sitter

Another great Peter Diamond story. In this book we meet Hen Mallen (sp?). The recording is odd in places but that doesn't detract. Very enjoyable. If you like Peter Diamond I think you'll like this book.

The House Sitter

Considering the unexciting location and uninspiring characters this book will keep you guessing until the end. Easy going, not too indepth, it makes a great holiday read. All things considered a good book, but don't expect the greatest masterpiece you have ever listened to!

Small research quibble

Not a bad story and decent delivery by Steve Hodson but the author clearly didn’t do proper research into archery. He would have you think there are only two disciplines of archery - crossbow or longbow but in fact, as even the most basic research would have shown, the most popular form of archery uses the recurve bow. Minor point in the story but irritating to an archer.

The House Sitter

Initially I found this a little slow to grab my attention but please persevere- this book has a good balance of witty lines from the characters and yet retaining above that a good storyline. Ultimately, I found myself relishing long drives to listen to more and leaving the office early for appointments so I could listen to as much as possible: the mark of a good download.

Well constructed plot

Really enjoyed this, slow start but the pace soon picks up and the end result is a well constructed plot with a touch of humour, my Wife kept asking me why I was laughing.

The final outcome was a surprise, I would never have guessed the perpetrator of the crime.

Recommended without hesitation.

Great plot

Enjoyed this book very much. It had interesting and entertaining characters and an intriguing plot. The only issue was with the recording and sound quality. On odd occasions the voice seemed to change very suddenly and it sounded as if it had been recorded in a different place at a different time.

Far Too Long

Had this book a while and thought so would give it another listen. wish I hadn't. It is far too long and goes off on far too many tangents. The narrator is okay, but not great. I wouldn't waste a credit on it. Not very often I give a very negative review. But on this occasion I think this book deserves it.

Another enjoyable listen

Once again I have been intrigued and diverted by Peter Diamond, the rather crusty detective with the magic touch when it comes to solving tricky crimes. The reading was good but occasionally I had difficulty knowing which characters was speaking. This little glitch did not happen too often and did not detract from my enjoyment of the book
