About this listen

2014. Nora has always taken success for granted, until suddenly her life begins to fall apart. Troubled by anxiety and nightmares, she finds herself drawn to the sweeping beaches of Tenby, a place she's only been once before. Together with a local girl, she rents a beautiful townhouse and slowly begins to settle in to her new life. But Tenby hides a secret, and Nora will soon discover that this little town by the sea has the power to heal even the most painful memories.

1950. Chloe visits Tenby every summer. She stays with relatives, and spends the long, idyllic days on the beach. Every year is the same, until she meets a glamorous older boy and is instantly smitten. But on the night of their first date, Chloe comes to a realisation, the aftermath of which could haunt her forever.

The Hourglass is a moving novel about finding love even after it seems too late and the healing power of a magical place by the sea.

Such a wonderful heartwarming tale, I was a bit apprehensive about listening to such a long book but it needed to be long, with everything coming together so beautifully at the end, the characters are endearing, the storyline is riveting but gentle, I really enjoyed this book

I really enjoyed this one. The story was interesting, the location descriptions evocative and the characters were well-drawn and appealing.
Nicely performed by the narrators, even if some of the ‘voices’ were a little strange at times.

An Enjoyable Listen

I kept falling asleep every time I tried to play this book. The first 10 chapters were hard going. I seriously considered giving it up. The book seemed to be going nowhere and a bit dull to be honest. Finally things started to pick up and it turned out to be a really good read and; then I was staying awake listening rather than sleeping. Stick with it - really enjoyable read in the end. I’m off to find another book by this author:)

I found this very slow going for quite a while, but it picked up and that's when I became more drawn into it. It's a very easy listen as it's not too heavy to think about, and I felt it was performed well. I did see a lot of what happened coming, but it didn't spoil how it actually unfolded. I found I started to care quite a lot about the characters towards the end, which isn't something that usually happens to me. Would recommend if you want an easy listen of a lovely story.

Slow to get into, but a wonderful story.

The voice for Nora was too old. It gave you the wrong impression of her. Otherwise a great performance from both narrators.

I'm a grown man, but I am not ashamed to admit that I liked this book very much. Or that I cried in a specific scene. The story starts slowly and for some time it had me wondering where it was really aiming at. But then it really got me hooked. And the two readers did a fantastic job in giving each person, and each situation, its perfect voice and its perfect tone

A beautiful story impeccably read
