As always, the narrator R Petkoff does a perfect job. The story might seem a little slow at start. Do not worry! You need that text when action starts to run fast. This is a classic ST TOG, giving as many questions as answers. All in all, a very happy read.

a great listen
as a trekki this book was fantastic,
the narrator got all the voices perfecto. you actually think it is the real deal he has them that good,
the story too, top quality. i knew exactly what was going on due to watching the original series and had pictures of all the characters in my mind. the characters kept referring to incidents in the tv series and this book answered an awful lot of questions too and just when you thought it was done BANG! it was like i got an extra book chipped in part 2 lol. as a trucker i listen to books for a while on long journeys. this one was on till the end more or less. i just liked it and believe it is one of the best trek books i have listened too. if your a fan of the original series like myself, GET IT! you won't be disappointed.

Great story that brings back characters and links to a number of the Original Series episodes and provides a reasonably consistent explanation for some of the experiences from those episodes.

A decent story from the “second five year voyage”

Gave up at chapter 15 when the 'big reveal' occured. With no spoilers other than the above, I found it to be pretty gross and improper. especially the patronising self-righteous attitude of a character who had basically and effectively been gaslighted into their current situation and mindset.
When McCoy decries something with vehemence then you know who's side to be on.
No patronising explanation can take away the fact that I listened to this garbage for 10 hours(!!!) before finding out I'd wasted a credit and half a day on this book.

Please do yourself a favour and skip it. There are so many arguments against chapter 15 that inexplicably get ignored or brushed aside that I don't want to associate with such disgusting characters as revealed here to supposedly be the 'victims' - to see one's own existence as more important than the central rights of 'unaware' others is not something that Starfleet would condone. While life is sacred, to infringe on another's rights and fundamentally endanger them to protect oneself without their consent cannot be sighed away as the other party not understanding one's plight.

Rubbish.

(OK so I'm abit too impassioned over a book, but I wasted a credit and ten hours! 😄 and it annoys me when something wrong is portrayed as justifiable).

Hope I haven't included any spoilers in this 'review'. But here is a separate, yet related, one that laid the groundwork for me ditching this book - a weapon is created that utilises something that Kirk specifically says he recommended be never used or developed due to his finding it against hmwhat Starfleet stood for, then after being shown said weapon, immediately grabs it and threatens to use it on someone he knew from before to get information out of them! So he drops his moral stance immediately when a potential threat occurs! We ALL know Kirk would not do that EVER! While he isn't perfect he has a strict moral code. Ok so his view on Klingons is warped soon after this book, but he still overcomes that...hope that little spoiler gives you an idea why this book is a waste of time to someone who thinks alot of these chars ters and what they stand for. :)

Even McCoy found the central conceit distasteful and morally wrong
