Summary

A talking tree, three exquisite ladies, and a mission to save the universe.

Abandoned in a hyper realistic realm, Maverick bonds with a familiar. The walking tree grows over the years, sprouting a shed, then a one story inn, and finally a fully fledged tavern. His quiet life is ruined when that pesky son of his needs help. Slight problem, Maverick needs a team. A splash of adventure, a dash of daring, and presto, he sets out to find some downright delicious babes to help him save the universe. But wait... there's more.

Warning: Contains intense action, adult situations, and untraditional relationships.

i always enjoy the books set in middle earth settings and dark ages. so it's really good. the female narrator is not bad but could be better.

enjoyed.

Enjoyed the audible. Well narrated. Story was a little different, however it was recommended by another author i enjoy so i gave it a chance. If you are into the genre, I don't think it will disappoint you. Saw the review about missing chapters. While I read a portion on kindle, I noticed nothing missing on the audible side.

great story

the story has great adaptation for the mc. it is linked to nebula lord that I recommend getting before this as it ties in the story really well, but it can also stand alone. highly recommended can't wait to see how the overall story continues

great book

the story was done really good and the narrators bring it to life unfortunately theres 2 spots that need to be fixed one spot it's just the female narrator for a bet then it resets and is both again the other is when they get the staff it cuts out and goes to the next chapter.

I liked this, but...

first off this is a great story. Gilliland and Cohen are amazing voice actors and I loved listening to them.

this is a story about a frontier tavern and a master crafter... that's literally the name, and one of the biggest hooks is this AMAZING walking, talking tree house.

it's an amazing plot hooks that can be used in so many different ways.

and it isn't.

at all.

this is such an important part of the story that it HEADLINES the title, and it doesn't have any bearing on the story at all.

At first I thought I was being petty or snarky, but I went back and listed everything that the Tree Tavern did, and it could have been replaced by almost anything else.

a magic Train car, a flying carpet, a Ford Anglia, a regular campsite, a covered wagon pulled by oxen like Oregon Trail, a blue police box, a bedknob after the words "Hellebore henbane aconite glowworm fire and firefly light" were chanted over it and it was turned three times... the list goes on.

it's a great plot hook that was just left to dangle.

other than that it was a great story and I loved it.

Part of a series

I had thought this a fully independent book. The author has actually created a universe for his various stories, connecting the plotlines of the protagonists of his different books. Even for this one specifically, it sounds like the main character's journey is only beginning. It's unclear if future books will again be focused on his point of view, or if they'll be focused on other characters and will only incidentally reference further developments for this character.

I love the "Frontier Tavern" character - however his name is spelled. The gigantic walking tree that is also a building, who loves to hear the story of how he became the main character's familiar? Great! He really carries the story.

I'm a big fan of harem novels, but the sex scenes weren't sexy to me - almost borderline cringy.

The male voice actor did a great job on character voices, although I felt he may have been mispronouncing some words. The female voice actor seemed to put much less effort into voices and emoting.

Overall, the book was somewhat enjoyable, but not fascinating. It's mostly of interest if you want to go through all of the author's books, present and future, in order to experience the full universe and its developments.

Enjoyable for the most part.

The performers were excellent. I agree with others that there seems to be dialog missing but it didn't seem too often (in the middle of the book, a big group meets for breakfast and some dialog was confusing, for example). Beside that, I thought there were abrupt storytelling style changes with no transition....could have done more smoothly but I suppose could be due to lost audio as well. Was kind of confused at the end too, but I'll check out "Nebula Lord" which hopefully provides more clarity. Overall though, I would still recommend this audio book.

Very unique story

I found the story and the litrpg elements interesting. My favorite part, of course, is Maverick and his lovely ladies. Highly recommend it.
