Summary

When the end arrives, how far will you go to survive?

Tired of the usual post-apocalyptic tale? Welcome to your new addiction.

The number one best-selling and most prolific post-apocalyptic author Mike Kraus brings a new gripping tale of destruction, survival, and humanity like no one else can.

On a quiet evening like any other, virtually anything that uses fuel goes up in flames, killing billions in the first 24 hours alone. Remnants of governments reel as they try to deal with the destruction of their countries and decimation of their military infrastructure as their cities burn to the ground.

On a quiet beach in South Florida, Alice Burton and her two children have started the family vacation early—all that's left is for James to fly in from a conference in Colorado. When the small beach town they're staying in is consumed by fire, they're forced to seek help on foot—facing dangers both natural and manmade at every turn.

Meanwhile, at the Denver International Airport, James Burton hides beneath an overpass as cars and planes erupt in flame around him. His survival is not guaranteed, as a treacherous journey through the heart of Denver and beyond awaits him if he has any hope of reuniting with his family.

Back home, on their small farm outside East Lansing, Michigan, Alice's parents are house-sitting, and are about to experience the most intense test of their survival and homesteading skills that they could ever imagine.

Enjoyable read

I've been looking forward to a new series on audible from Mike and as usual it doesn't disappoint.. What I like about these series is they can quite literally become true life and aren't far fetched as some stories.
The book starts off slow and normal and quickly becomes terrifying experience for Alice and the kids... Although the cue stick indent was rather funny. The book (read) does take you on a interesting journey of good and bad for both parties.I can't wait for the next chapter as it has been left on a huge cliffhanger...
So if you have a spare +/- 11 hours I can highly recommend this book

Really enthralling.

I'm itching to figure out what's going on in this world. The writer narrated which I respect. It's not cheap and he did a pretty good job all in all. I can only see him getting better with time. I'll be checking out the sequel!

Need good narrator!

Liked the premise of the story. A lot of character subplots to keep track of. But narration made it clunky. A good narrator would be worth the investment!
Then I would have rated it a 5.

hire a narrator

narration is pretty terrible. author shouldn't have done it himself. also a book about the apocalypse written as a pg 13 movie is just horrible for immersion.

Painfully dull.

If the authors goal was to captivate readers in book 1 and keep them coming back, he failed miserably. Positive reviews MUST be the author and his friends. Refund please.

Hire a pro to narrate

Premise is unique. Story line is interesting. Hard to tell if the characters are likable because of the poor narration.

Great Book!

This one's certainly starts out with a bang! Very well written and very well read. There's plenty in the story that keeps you listening on the edge of your seat. It has very strong characters that make believable choices for their survival. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!!!

Pretty entertaining

The narrator did a pretty good job for what seems to be his first time. The story line resembles previous work. I will listen to all the installments of the series to support his future works.
