Summary

Number one best-selling author Mike Kraus's quarter-million best seller is now available in its definitive edition!

When the end of the world arrived, it came not with a bang, as most expected, but with more of a "pfft" instead.

Humanity has been torn asunder and brought to the edge of total annihilation in less than an hour. For those who died, it was a quick death, so fast that their brains didn't have time to process the pain signals from their nerves. For those who survived, the true horror is about to begin as they struggle to not only stay alive, but come to grips with the shocking realization about what - and who - was responsible.

Final Dawn is a thrilling post-apocalyptic series that follows the journey of four people who survived the end of days.

Leonard McComb - A grizzled veteran of the New York City sanitation department, trapped underground in the city's vast sewer system when the world ended.

Nancy Sims - An accountant, traveling across the plains of the Midwest towards a new job, caught in the middle of nowhere, destruction all around her.

Marcus Warden - A self-made millionaire from New York, vacationing in a national forest of West Virginia when the bombs fell.

Rachel Walsh - A wife and mother whose family is swept away in the blink of an eye, struggling with her loss and the dawning realization of what may have truly transpired to bring about the end of the world.

Final Dawn is a thrilling post-apocalyptic series by long time author Mike Kraus. If you like fast paced action, edge of your seat suspense and impossible odds, you will love this, the Final Dawn Complete series!

Contains the following books:

  • Final Dawn Episodes 1-12
  • The Brazilian Queen short story
  • The Arkhangelsk Trilogy (Books 1-3)

Meh..

I found the voice characterisations a tad ridiculous. Leonard was literally one step away from becoming the Cookie Monster and Rachel's chirpy demeanor completely at odds with the fact that her entire family had been wiped from the face of the Earth along with pretty much everyone else. Then there was the most implausible situation of Nancy effectively becoming second in command of a Russian nuclear submarine.

While story itself is ok, it borrows quite a bit from the Matrix, especially in the last book.

overall...meh...

annoying voice

kinda like the story but the author doing the reading?? I think he could have found someone with a voice that is not so grating and annoying, ruins the story.

Great characters, great story.

I really enjoyed this series and it gave me plenty of late nights.

I only have one suggestion if you undertake an endeavour like this again. You don't have to say written by and narrated by so many times, it became annoying after a while.

I survived...just.

The first part of the trilogy was good, the second was somewhat irrelevant and the third became annoying, which is why I’m giving it 3* overall. Mike Kraus is a good narrator when reading the story but the voice characterisations are pretty dreadful. The female characters are strong, independent, intelligent women, which is a positive but Mike Kraus manages to make them sound like they belong in a Scooby Doo cartoon. Lennard, on the other hand sounds like a cartoon thug. By part 3, I was struggling to continue and this was compounded by the Russian submarine commander leaving an American woman in charge of his submarine. A woman who has no knowledge of nuclear submarines at that. For me, it stretched credulity too far. The addition of all the Russian accents left me struggling. The first part is a good story, although probably better read than listened to. I think it should have ended there since the rest of the trilogy doesn’t really add anything.

Great

Monumental great listen. I appreciated the fact that the creator was the narrator and indeed did a lovely job. Great value and entertainment many thanks Mr Kraus from your Irish friends. Ps best of luck and good health for 2021 .

Naration should have been done by a professional

The naration doesnt give the story the respect it deserves. The inflections given in the characters speach gives them a child like characteristic with an amaturish feel. A great story which would probably be better served with a professional narator like Scott Brick or the like. Couldn't finish. Will probably read the hardcopy.

Dull and Repetitive

This yearn strings on and on lurching from one improbable scenario to another equally imposable escape. the short chapters make it hard to follow, i hung in for 4 books but I finally gave in

soooo bad

probably the worst book ever written by a 12 year old. Don't waste your brain cells trying to understand all the nonsense added by an uneducated moronic writer.

Garbage in, garbage out

Do you enjoy literature? Do you like characters who are true to their descriptions? Well thought out and developed story lines? Narration which truly brings the story to life? Then run far and fast from this "book".

Saying this was written (to loosely use that word, written) by a 12 year old would be an insult to even the most uneducated, illiterate 12 year old one could imagine.

The narrative is a confusion of monotones with the occasional ridiculous attempt at some seemingly falsetto voice. But truly, it's understandable why the author chose to do his own narration. The cost for any self respecting voice actor to actually read this would be quite out of this "authors" budget, I'm sure.

You're time would be better spent contemplating the social and political ramifications of "Go Dogs, Go!"

Very Raw

I enjoyed this series, but it is definitely very raw. You can tell that the author is new to this but I know he will only get better. He created very strong Characters that I hate to see the end of with the end of the series. So hop he will either continue this series or use these characters in another series. My one negative with these books was the extreme amount of cussing, I don’t think it was needed, especially with the Russians as they would not be using the same cuss words as an American would. But even with this I continued to listen. Best of luck in all this authors future endeavors.

Bad in so many ways

Firstly he should not have narrated his own book. His skill is marginal at best. Making each chapter really short makes it very jerky and hard to follow. The writing is almost acceptable but the story is hackneyed. Early on when I got to where a female protagonist gets hijacked by someone standing in the road I just had to quit.

Great Saga. Great characters

I absolutely loved the story. the characters were great, realistic that they failed and the overcame obstacles. An action packed saga of the apocalypse.

I Tried

I read one of his other books (Surviving the Fall) and enjoyed it. I expected this book to be as good... But... With all the serious tone and repeating of dates I could not connect with any one part (sub-plot) and for sure they did not seem to belong together. More like a recital of random facts than any kind of story. I might try another of his books but only after reading some reviews and listening to the preview.
