Summary

A stolen child. A killer stalking the streets of Glasgow. A troubled detective running out of time.

Five years ago, DCI John Lomond led the search for notorious Glasgow child-killer ‘The Sandman', until personal tragedy forced him off the case.

In Lomond's absence, the killer was never found.

Now, with nothing but work left in his life, Lomond remains obsessed with the case–despite the nightmares it brings.

When a child is abducted in similar Sandman fashion from an affluent Glasgow suburb, Lomond is brought in to find them before it's too late.

But the only forensic evidence belongs to a little girl who was abducted and murdered twenty years ago.

Could the Sandman's identity lie buried in the coldest of cold cases? Or is a new killer about to claim their first victim?

The Bonnie Dead is the explosive debut Scottish crime thriller from Andrew Raymond–author of Amazon number one political thriller Official Secrets, which has now sold over 100,000 copies.

Shot through with dark Glaswegian humour and thrilling twists, he captures the voices of his beloved home city, taking you into its hidden depths, and the iconic hills and glens of nearby Loch Lomond and Arran.

If you like writers like JD Kirk, Ian Rankin, and Stuart MacBride, this addictive thriller will have you gripped until its haunting, heart-in-the-mouth climax.

Some hysterical lines

It’s been 3 days since I’ve finished this book and it’s sad to say but I can’t even remember the story line. It was so funny at times with the patter and I did laugh out loud. I had to listen to a few chapters again and again but mostly because my brain doesn’t always take it in. As of writing this I can’t remember the ending, and the truth is, I can’t be bothered re listening to any of it. I didn’t feel it was a waste of a credit but it wasn’t mind blowing either. It was good for me as a Glasgow girl to hear all the local streets etc mentioned, and the storyline was decent. The narrator was great, I don’t often listen to men narrators so a wee change for me.

Gripping!

I was attracted to this as Angus King was the narrator - I am so glad I downloaded it - it was absolutely gripping. I have loved Angus King’s excellent narration of the JD Kirk books, but struggled to find a series to replace them. Andrew Raymond has done a stellar job as author - didn’t see the ending coming, but when it did, it all came together. All ends tied up, nothing botched or hurried - a great ‘read’. The location too of Glasgow, Argyll, Edinburgh and Arran were so accurately described by the author, and accents conveyed perfectly by the narrator, that I felt I was there - I could see them all in my minds eye. Well done Andrew Raymond in combination with Angus King.

Great book.

So nice to read/listen to a crime thriller, that doesn’t have the protagonist, either being targeted by the villain, trying to go in single-handed without back up and getting I a pickle or being framed by their dodgy colleagues! Just a good gripping who dunnit! Looking forward to seeing the characters develop.

"Sandmania."

A child abducted whilst the drugged parents helplessly watch, brings back memories of the Sandman, a child killer who had terrorised Scotland and had never been caught. Those killings had stopped five years before, at the same time as personal tragedy had struck DCI Lomund. If this latest abduction really was a return of the Sandman, Lomund and his team had only four days to find and rescue the boy. This is a gripping, tense and twisty thriller impeccably performed by Angus King whose individual voicing for each character really brings the story to life.

Recommended to all enjoying Scottish police procedural thrillers with a gritty realistic feel.

A fantastic book narrated superbly. The story was excellent and the characters kept my interest. I certainly hope there will be more books to make a great series.
