Summary

Photographer Isla Wilson is thrilled she's landed her dream job, but the clients who hired her are getting stranger by the day.

It sounded so perfect—a month's assignment at the lush Scottish Highlands property of architect Alban McGregor, and his wife, Jessica.

But in the woods, there's a playhouse with a chilling history.

Two years ago, the McGregors' daughter Elodie was abducted and then died in that playhouse. The townspeople insist her abductor had to be a stranger in their town. Alban refuses to knock the playhouse down, even keeping a picture of it on his wall.

Sensing the McGregors and townspeople are keeping terrible secrets, Isla plans to discover the truth.

But the closer Isla comes to uncovering answers, the more the danger mounts. And with a dense cover of snow now blanketing the town, all chance of escape might already be gone.

Just gets more and more fanciful.

I won’t spoil it, but you’re really going to have to suspend your disbelief on this one.

Shocking Story

This is a complex story involving many characters.
It's not until the criminal trial that the whole unexpected truth becomes known.
Brilliantly unique story.
I do recommend.

Awful accents!

Don't know how good or bad the story was because I couldn't listen to the awful accents. The narrator could not do a remotely convincing Scottish accent, making some of the colloquialisms sound ridiculous. It's a shame because it could be a good story.

Rollercoaster of guesses

I am so happy I have picked up this title. It has been an amazing journey. I kept on trying to guess what the story really is but the actual ending had been so surprising that I was sitting at the edge of my seat frozen listening to it! 1000% recommend! Thank you Ms. Anni Taylor and Ms. Harriet Gordon-Anderson!

Strange

I like thrillers with a twist which this did have .
I found I was wanting it to come to an end as I’d lost interest

Good story, dodgy accent

Story was engaging but the narrator’s Scottish accent wasn’t very convincing, blurring somewhere between Scots and Irish and occasionally even sounding a bit Welsh. As a British listener this was a somewhat annoying & distracting.

Good story with lots to guess

Yes. It’s far fetched with way too many coincidences to be believable but if you like a good mystery then you’ll enjoy it.
The main characters are likeable enough to hook you in.
It stars off with one mystery and then adds another separate thread of mystery which seems a bit odd bit it all winds together eventually.

Starts off slow, couldn’t put it down in the end

I read some reviews about the accent, for me this didn’t detract from the story, I thought it was well read. Started off a bit slow, making you wonder what the back story is about but all concludes sensationally at the end.
