Summary

With Joe Gunther and his Vermont Bureau of Investigation team spread thin on assignment everywhere, from the remote dairy country of Northwest Vermont to the slums of Newark, New Jersey, they're pushed to their absolute limit when a string of serial arsons across the Green Mountain State evolves into the most shocking series of murders the bucolic region has ever known.

Good Listen

The story was one of the less complicated so far with a simple plot and characters to match. It moved along quickly and my only problem now with the series is the continued references back to previous events. Rather than adding to the character it is limiting and detracting from any progress. You know that the same events will be mentioned in the next 10 books.

Surprised

I found this a 5* listen, and was surprised by the twists that came and enjoyed the chemistry of the forcws outside of their own jurisdiction.

Complex yet brilliant twist at the end.

A police procedural with a difference

A very well narrated story, with a different background to the usual murder investigations. Characters and storyline believable, no contrived “twists”, just a well-run investigation slowly unravelling the truth. Excellent.

Good story, excellent narrator

I’ve listened to all of the Joe Gunther series so far and this is another excellent instalment. I have to say, Tom Taylorson is possibly the best narrator I have listened to in almost fourteen years of Audible. Sean Barrett has always been my number one, but for sheer range of voices, characterisation and consistent acting skill, Tom Taylorson is my new top dog

Ok

Much the same as the others. An easy listen. So much so that I often fade out and have to go back and re listen. Tom Taylorson, excellent as ever. Gail/Gayle as annoying and navel gazing as ever.

What a doormat!

Love the crime solving story but I am so pleased Gail has gone. Perhaps now Joe will find someone unselfish who really appreciates him. The relationship has been really tedious and I was really hoping she would die!
