Summary
The first title in a dark and gritty crime series.
Brought up believing that sex is the devil's work, a killer only finds release once he has saved his victim's souls. Abiding by his vision, he marks them as his. A gift to guide his chosen ones on the rightful path to redemption.
Detective Inspector Paolo Sterling is out to stop him, but Paolo has problems of his own. Hunting down the killer as the death toll rises, the lines soon blur between Paolo's personal and professional lives.

Impressive
I was not too sure about this one at the beginning, I thought it was bit cliched with the mad mother turning a son into a murderer malarkey that we often see, but I was soon pleasantly surprised, yes, it does feature the mad mother but there is so much more going on here than the usual.
I liked pretty much everything in the story, but it should be noted that there is quite a lot of violence, not excessive but more than the average police proceedural.
Mr Cullum is a lovely narrator but his screechy angry women voices set my teeth on edge, other than that, he was a pleasure to listen to.

Brilliant
I am so pleased I came across this author. This book has everything you could possibly wish for. There was no "padding out" by unnecessary drawn out and boring chapters to spin the book out. Everything was fast paced and exciting. The narration was excellent and added to the enjoyment of the book. 100% reccomend this book. I have downloaded book 2 in the series and cannot wait to start it.

Great story, fantastic performance.
A great story with excellent characters. Above all, a superb narration from Cullum. The voicing alone is impressive, but the clarity, expression and pace makes it sound like a well rehearsed radio play. very highly recommended as a masterclass of voice acting. Bravo.

Gave up
I wish I hadn't bothered with this - and wasted a credit (but will return unfinished) The subject matter is extremely unpleasant, but life isn't always good so we can make some allowances. However, the writing is childlike and that I cannot excuse. Were I to write a novel, I am certain my vocabulary would be degree standard by comparison. Just awful!!
