John Baden's story of being held prisoner for 12 years sounds far-fetched - but it's all about to get much, much stranger. DI Ben Westphall has been given the case because of his background in MI6. He also has a knack for getting inside people's heads and seeing things others would miss. Westphall is no ordinary detective, and this is no ordinary case.

Summary
A dead cop. A damaged detective. A copycat killer on the loose.
When the chief suspect in the notorious "peekaboo cop killer" case blew himself up, almost taking lead investigator DCI Duncan Bone with him, the psychologically damaged detective thought his days on the force were over. But, when another PC is abducted and murdered in the same deranged peekaboo fashion, Bone is persuaded to return to lead the new investigation. But, as Bone and his team hunt a copycat killer, and with time running out before yet another cop is slain, Bone’s terrifying past returns to tear open old wounds and push him to very edge of the abyss.
Can DCI Bone end the killing before the killing ends him?-
Set among the dramatic hills and glens of Scotland's Campsie Fells, Dark Is the Grave is the first in a series of edge-of-your-seat crime thrillers that will keep you guessing right up to the nail-biting, heart-stopping climax. Loved it
I think I have found a new series of exciting audios to get stuck into. I loved this serial killer audio and it had great narration from Steve Worsley as well. DCI Bone and can’t wait to see what happens next in his story. In this audio he is called to investigate what it seems is a copycat killer trying to replicate the work of the man that almost killed DCI Bones. As more innocent people are taken it’s a race against time to find out who’s responsible before it’s too late. Edge of your seat stuff.

Can DCI Bone end the killing before the killing ends him?
I love love crime fiction and true crime This is a Police procedural set north of the border.
DCI Bone has a past and while he is damaged I was interested in him. Moreover I enjoyed getting to know other characters in the book as the plot developed
The story was not too rambly which was great and it kept me turning the pages
The crimes are quite gritty which i liked and I read every chance I got
I think the short chapters helped to keep my interest
Overall great start to series I will be getting my mitts on the next book in the series when its available on audiobook

An exciting new Scottish series
A great start to a new series with a clever storyline. DCI Bone is suffering from PTSD following a near death experience at the hands of the Peek a Boo killer. When a copy cat killer starts to contact him about recent murders Bone is forced to return to work too soon and the subsequent toll on his mental health is very well depicted. An exciting new Scottish thriller series, I am really looking forward to book 2. The audible narration is excellent and really brings the story to life.

Really enjoyable - narration was brilliant
I couldnt stop listening, at first I was a bit confused about the plot but I got into it and then liked it and really wanted to know how it got resolved. I even got really involved in the side stories and cant wait to see how they develop. I also enjoyed the different locations as I hadn't listened/read set in this part of Scotland.
The narrator really added to the story and made each character unique.
I was given a free copy via the book club -audible listeners but the review is entirely my own.

Loved this! The description promises a edge of your seat thriller and this book delivers. Not only is the story fantastic it feels very current and I enjoyed it's handling of the main protagonists mental health! Hopeless thriller!!!
Too much trite dialogue, limpid narration and no thrills. This is book 2 and I will not be reading further novels as I doubt they will be any better. I need action on all fronts both from the villains and the police and this has neither. Perhaps book 1 was better but the constant references to 'the peekabo killer' render it unnecessary anyway. Poor show on all fronts as far as I am concerned and I really do wonder if all those favourable reviews were written in error??? Honestly - don't bother

Seriously good story! Don't let this one get away!
Fast-paced, well detailed, and brilliantly narrated.
This one had me on the edge of my chair throughout the whole story. The plot had solid substance and enough twists and turns to keep the reader fully engaged. At one point I turned it off because I did not want it to end! I’m so glad it’s the first in the series!
The main characters are well developed and will stand up to the upcoming series. Definitely, worth the read, I will say though, that as an Audible option this one deserved extra credit... The narration bumped it up a level! Steve Worsley really out did himself in this one!

Fantastic
I get easily turned off of books that have a very long and dragged out intro before the story really starts. Well no problem here because this one hooked me by jumping right into the action immediately. The story is fast paced but not in a way that's hard to follow. I was definitely intrigued and wanted to keep listening to find out what was going to happen next. I found the characters realistic and relatable in their struggles. There was some amusing comic relief that made me literally laugh out loud at parts. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and, even a few days after finishing it, am still thinking about it. I very much hope that this is a long series of DCI Bones and his crew because finishing this book left me wanting more.
I have no complaints about the narrator, which is high praise.

Brilliant
Is there anything better than listening to book 1 in a new series and loving it, knowing you've got hours of pleasure to come? I was excited about DCI Bone from reading the book blurb and tried to contain myself. So often a book that promises much, fails to deliver. What a mistake! My expectations were fully matched and then exceeded. Duncan Bone is a likeable man and he has good relationships with his colleagues. The story was tightly woven and moved along briskly and Steve Worsley's narration was superb. The dialogue was pithy, witty and realistic and the whole package was a gift that kept on giving. I highly recommend you get in on the ground floor of this series because this one's going to fly.

This is the first book in the DCI Bone series. I hope there are many more! The team of detectives are people you can admire. They are hard working and loyal to Bone. They’re trying to find a copycat killer. A vicious killer. I had a suspicion who it was. But it wasn’t! I highly recommend this book! It is so good!!
