Summary

Two bodies.

Great sequel to the brilliant Dark Pines
I really enjoyed this return to the weird and wonderful world of Gavrik and the intriguingly flawed and honest perspective of the self self-sabotaging Tuva. She is a compelling, unusual and endearing presence and never dull. I love the description of this place and it’s characters and the mysteries of the evolving plot were gripping. I was taken by surprise at the end. This time I’m going straight to the next in the series rather than forcing myself to wait!

Dark, depressing but brilliantly layered
I’m not sure if there can be a more weird town and a more “off” collection of people than in the one depicted in this book! Still, the author adds layer upon layer of humanity, depression, sadness, weirdness until the end comes a blessed relief from all that tension and uncertainty. I gave 4 stars because of, again, the use of unnecessarily disgusting details (the use of offal, hair in the mouth while eating, and soon). I also gave 4 stars to the narrator, for the absolutely depressing tone used throughout when voicing the narrator. I understand that this adds to the atmosphere but it makes it downright morbid in its delay between the words, the low tone of voice, and so on.

Authentic and atmospheric
This is the 2nd of Will Deans books set in deepest darkest artic. The narrator is clearly Scandinavian and her beautiful accent accentuates the atmosphere of the story.
Give it a go - I’m going to start his 3rd story tomorrow - now that’s a reconnmendation

Great second book from Will Dean.
His first book showed promise and this new book shows he is developing into a great story teller. We learn more about the characters who were introduced in the previous book. The sense of setting is also developed further. An interesting well paced story although I felt the ending was rather flat and the last few chapters could have done with further work and editing. Still a very enjoyable read/listen.

Not as good as Dark Pine
I was really looking forward to Red Snow as I had enjoyed Dark Pine as it was so different. However I found the second in the series to be a bit long winded and boring in places and not such a good ending. In fact I thought this ending was a bit silly. Sorry Will Fingers crossed for the next in the series

Better than Dark Pines.
This book was far better than the first. I loved learning more about Tuva and the small town she lives in. Narration was ok, but lots of mispronounced words which caught my attention as English isn't her first language, but I did find it easier to listen too than the first book.
Please bring us another instalment of Tuva's life.

Grimm atmospheric thriller
The storyline and thriller plot are classic and quite tropey but the characters are wonderfully monstrous, the setting enchanting and brutal and the main character is both childlike and hardboiled - deadpan noir in an eerie snowbound nightmare.

Another masterpiece
Once again the writing style draws you in and keeps you transfixed. The single person view point is mesmerising and the story continues developing, but it is the strength of the characters that make this author truly great. I really hope that this is not the last in the series.
