Summary

A collection of seven short stories, recorded here for the first time.

In The Killing Field, Poe and Tilly are having breakfast, wondering how to spend the rest of their holiday, when their presence is requested at a Cumbrian airfield. An airfield that, during the 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis, was known as the killing field...

In Why Don't Sheep Shrink?, a global pandemic forces Poe and Tilly to self-isolate together. Things don't go well. They're bickering and on the verge of falling out until Poe finds an old case file: a locked-room mystery he's been mulling over for years. Step forward, Tilly Bradshaw.

Dead Man's Fingers sees Poe, Tilly and Edgar, Poe's English springer spaniel, enjoying a picnic at a nature reserve. When Edgar chases a rabbit, and Poe and Tilly chase after Edgar, they stumble upon a twenty-year-old mystery, a mystery that couldn't be solved until now . . .

In Strange Ink crime-fighting duo Tilly and Poe solve a mystery from inside a pantomime horse in a short story that first appeared in the Halloween anthology Afraid of the Shadows

In A Permanent Solution Poe and Tilly are on an HR course in Wales when a murder is committed in their hotel. But, maybe not everything is as it seems. This story first appeared in First Edition: Celebrating 21 Years of Goldsboro Books.

Mondo Bizzarro sees Tilly drag Poe to Durham to meet her favourite fantasy author, Aldridge Fowler, but when they arrive, he's already dead - killed by his own hand. Despite the overwhelming evidence though, Poe suspects the bookshop staff might be hiding a terrible secret.

In Once in a Red Moon, whilst on a murder-mystery evening in deepest darkest Northumberland, Poe manages to annoy everyone whilst simultaneously solving a mystery - what happened to a five-carat red diamond called the Red Moon of Coonowrin.

Loved it!

This is a brilliant compilation of 7 short stories about Poe and Tilley. The first one is a bit gruesome but the listener should not be put off! John Banks narration is second to none and he adds to the whole entertainment value of what is an excellent set of stories. My favourite has to be the Halloween one where Washington and Tilley are the front and rear end of an 8 legged pantomime horse. That is closely followed by the final offering where they are attending a murder mystery evening. Both of these had me chuckling in me boots for more than a few times. Highly recommended listen for all Poe and Bradshaw fans.

Short but sweet

Almost saccharin at times, first few stories were good but felt like lectures on diseases, overall enjoyable but a longer tale is preferred

Great

Really good to listen to as you're working, very relaxing and I love how you can change the speed of the narrator.

A compilation perfect for Bradshaw & Poe fans!

Cut Short is an audio book featuring seven short stories from M.W. Craven's brilliant protagonists Tillie Bradshaw and Washington Poe.

And it's funny serious and completely gripping to listen too. As narrator John Banks wonderfully brings these two characters to life, and honestly I was hooked and spent the whole time giggling like a fool at the banter between Poe and Tillie.

And with seven intriguing crimes to solve ranging from two men sewn into cows at the height of the foot and mouth outbreak to the murder of an author in a bookshop in Durham. This is compilation that had it all and its perfect for fans of the series.

The seven stories included are:

* The Killing Field

* Why Dont Sheep Shrink?

* Dead Man's Fingers

* Permanent Solution

* Mondo Bizarro

* Once in a Red Moon

Brilliant

Two of my favourite characters solving crimes and making me laugh - just wish it was twice as long as I didn’t want it to end - excellent narrator brings the characters to life!

Just doesnt feel right....

A series of increasingly bizarre causes of death and incredulous stories. Poe has become a caricature- petulent and patronising with a cynicism bordering on bitterness.Tilly can hack into 'everything' in 5 minutes and solve any crime which loses any sense of investigation Looking forward to a full novel as these short stories didnt hit the mark at all.
