Summary

Lambing season always brings the unexpected… But no one expected murder

Jude Gray never thought she’d find herself widowed and running a working farm full-time, but here she is, living in the small Malvern village her husband Adam spent most of his life in.

After a particularly gruelling lambing season, she is looking forward to some time off, but there’s no rest for the wicked, especially when she finds the body of one of Adam’s oldest friends on her farm.

Unimpressed with the local constabulary's efforts, Jude starts an investigation of her own. But as the body count rises, danger creeps ever closer to Malvern Farm.

A killer is on the prowl. And all that stands in their way is one woman – and her dog.

An absorbing cozy murder

This has been a great story to listen to and the farm setting worked beautifully. The characters came to life very quickly for me and I found the story moved along at a nice pace, it allowed for lots of descriptive elements of the countryside and the friendships but quickly enough to keep my attention. I’m looking forward to the next story from Kate and this was beautifully read by Rebecca.

A clever, entertaining mystery

This is an engrossing, well-written mystery with a brilliantly drawn cast of characters. First in a series, so I look forward to the rest.

A brilliant whodunnit!

Quite gripping! Really enjoyed the characters and plot, thought it was cleverly unravelled.
One or two slight plot cringes with the police helping out the main characters, but I can overlook that with a good story.

The narration is very poor. No emotion, poorly edited and the pronunciation of some place and character names was incorrect and all over the place. It was also poorly edited in places and I feel sorry for the author that their creation has been so poorly handled! The story, thankfully, carried it through!

Absolutely recommend, can’t wait to see what is next from the author!

Gripping

Surprises to the end. Thorough in detail of the geographical setting, farm life, relationships and twists and turns right to the end. Felt very much part of the characters lives. Can’t wait for the next book

Enjoyable ‘ First in Series’

I think this series will gain a following of lovers of cosy/intriguing mysteries .
Quite a lot of characters….and I think I got a bit muddled here and there 🙄
but I’ll own to it probably being my age and not the author’s fault .
Storyline complex in places and I didn’t guess the outcome ! Well worth listening to .

Fabulous

I very much enjoyed this one, and was sure I'd already reviewed it, but apparently not. The story is quite excellent and I enjoyed the narrator although I notice others do not agree. I did find she occasionally mispronounced things but I didn't find that too distracting and enjoyed her voice generally.
The story was interesting but Jude was often annoying, and getting herself into daft situations, but that's par for the course with this particular genre. I would certainly buy another by Kate Wells, and listen to more narrated by Ms Norfolk.

Dreadful narrator

Surely a narrator should make sure they know how to pronounce places correctly and consistently before they undertake an audio book? Malvern was sometimes pronounced correctly and a few minutes later incorrectly. She couldn’t say Worcester in fact it was unrecognisable as was Wyche. I thought a story covering my local area and farming (my background) would be good but I had to give up with 6 hours to go because of Rebecca Norfolk’s inability to say the names correctly. I’m asking for my money back
