Superb - as usual!
Yet another amazingly well written and gloriously read instalment of the ‘goings on’ at St Mary’s! Such an especial joy in these difficult times!

unexpected twist
Well, I wasn't expecting that twist.
There were a few (only a few?) bits that were a stretch too far

Another absolute belter!
Brings back some old favourite characters, has brilliant historical set-pieces, plenty of nerve-wracking action and shows, once again, that clear-cut genres are something that happen to _other_ authors. Loved it :D

Well, wasn't expecting that!
As always, the narrator was perfect. I think if I heard anyone else speak Max, it would be unbelievable now.
So much happened in the book that was memorable, and I do enjoy learning more about the historical events viewed in contemporary time, but the climactic final revelations were definitely unexpected. OK, so you know from about halfway that something is coming but then Ronan pops in again to distract.
For non-St Mary's converts (yet)....not really a stand alone. This is definitely a series that needs order.

Another ripping yarn
You would think that after all the previous outings the storylines and characters would be getting a bit thin.
Not at all. Jodi comes up with surprises and spins a wonderful take of intrigue told with humour and wonderfully read as usual by Zara.

brilliant
I really enjoyed this, love the narrator, think she's a perfect choice. Like the other books in the series it twists and turns in strange directions. The toilet humour and reliance on specific beverages for specific cures seems so right.

Her most complex and intriguing yet
This is a welcome return of Max, Peterson, Markham. Dr Bairstow and other familiar friends from St. Mary's, and includes Jody Taylor's meticulously-researched and carefully imagined historical episodes that give the books their real centrepieces. But it also includes a more complex underlying plot line, which is surprising but satisfying, and which raises a host of new questions that hopefully will bridge into future St. Mary's stories.
Zara Ramm, as always, gives a fluent and most enjoyable reading: her voice is indivisible from the character of Max, who literally would not be the same without her. A perfect match of reader and topic.
One of the best St. Mary's books yet.
