About this listen

History shapes those who travel through it.

Determined to save the antiques store she has inherited from ruin after the unexplained disappearance of her parents, Sarah Lester discovers a jumbled collection of vintage postcards that leads her on a journey through time.

Unprepared for the story the postcards weave about their reclusive former owner, Sarah’s life is thrown into disarray as she is transported to Victorian London, colonial New Zealand, and to the British Raj in 19th-century India.

Sarah’s journey through time could solve the mystery of her parents’ disappearance. But one impossible question remains: What will staying in the past do to her future?

A brilliant and surprising adventure

I didn't want the story to end and now look forward to more from the author
A heady concoction of time travel and history, with contemporary attitudes, kept me listening ,without things being predictable.

A fantastic concept as an excuse to time travel.

I really enjoyed this book, and although I chose it as an easy bedtime read, the late nights from page turning and constant rewinding of snippets I may have missed through dozen forced me to change it to my driving listen, as the details and descriptions are well plotted.
I deducted a star due to the story being left open, but will be downloading the next book as soon as I've finished this review, as I am thoroughly engrossed in the story, or should I say stories, unwinding.

Excellent fantasy

Took me a couple of ‘postcards’ to get into the story then had to know what followed and wanted to continue listening to the end of the book.
Great readers and well animated.
Slight suspenseful ending to make you want to downloaded book two.

Hmmmm this is a difficult one

This should have had everything that I enjoy. The audiobook delivery was really good but the story was just a bit lacking. **spoilers**

I’ve given it three stars, I’m not sure if it should have been four, and I would have given 3&1/2 if I could, but I think three is right, because…

This should have had everything that I enjoy. The audiobook delivery was really good but the story was just a bit lacking.

**spoilers**
I love this type of stuff, film, tv, books. This is the same sort of concept as Quantum Leap, the main character leaps into other people’s bodies, but she seems almost completely unphased by it. This continues all the way through. At the end she disappears after something and her friend just carries on as if nothing has happened, with her new romance and her collection and letting herself in to get stuff from from the shop. For me I just didn’t feel that this was realistic.
The concept is good, the idea clever, and I like that the author clearly has the specialist knowledge to add in lots of details, but I didn’t especially enjoy the execution. I’d like to find out what happens but there was enough that didn’t appeal to me that I don’t think I will continue the others. I may, I’m not sure.
Mixed feelings, but I was excited by the concept.

Interesting as I couldn’t see where the story was going

Mispronunciation was mildly annoying but didn’t put me off from keeping listening. Quite unbelievable but entertaining nevertheless

Confusing.

I love time travel books & the positive reviews of this book spurred me to get it. The premise of the book is good & the narration excellent. However I found the book confusing & still have absolutely no idea of what the relation between the chapter heading postcards & the main story (which I felt ended without a satisfactory ending) is. Maybe the next book on the series will explain things though reviews of that one indicate this may not be the case.

A Rollicking Read

A great time-travelling story ranging widely across The British Empire. As much as I enjoyed this listen, I was brought up short by several grammatical inaccuracies. (What do editors do these days?). I was also intrigued by the odd anachronistic errors - tea at luncheon at the Savoy? And why is the tea always ‘fragrant’. However, despite my complaints, I did order the next in the series straight away!
