Summary

An epic mafia-romance trilogy that sets a new bar for just how dark a hero can get, from New York Times best-selling and Audie Award-winning author CD Reiss.

Some girls dream of marrying a prince, but I never imagined I’d be sold to a king.

Santino DiLustro.

The king. The monster. The keeper of secrets.

When he forced me to marry him, I cried for love I’d never know. When he locked me away, I cried for the freedom I lost forever. Every other tear I’ve shed is for my soul, because I’m falling for the devil himself.

This is the first book of three in a series.

Book 1

The book started painful slow, nothing really happens apart Violet constantly expressing her displeased of being sold. It’s towards the last 2 hours that told line improves, in my opinion this first part could have been told in half the time, just hoping book 2 will be better.

❤️❤️ I’M BLOWN AWAY.. & IT’S GOING TO GET EPIC ❤️❤️

Ok, when you put CD Reiss’ name on a Mafia listen I’m greedily throwing my credit at Audible.. then I’m mentally doing gimme gimme hands and breaking my “don’t start a Trilogy until all books are out” rule. And, after binge-listening to Book 1, I know this Trilogy is going to be epic.

She came to America because she needed a second family.. now she’s a nineteen years old virgin in a Wedding dress she didn’t choose, trapped in a room she can’t get out of, trapped in a loveless marriage she was forced into and trapped in a Mafia King’s world she didn’t want or ask for. She was about to go on holiday before starting her adult life.. but now it’s been claimed by the ruthless beautiful Italian King. Now she’s living a lie, she’s been betrayed, she’s being kept from earth-shattering truths and powerful tightly-held secrets, she’s protected, in danger, sad, vengeful, attracted, conflicted and sheltered from learning the truth. Then comes the rules.. the disobeying.. the bloodshed.. the punishments that ignite.. and, after tears and bloodshed, comes an awakening of sexual desires, passionate kisses and sizzles. But, when the King wins his Queen, her walls will lay in ruin, her heart will be breached and her body will have been thoroughly claimed.. until... until.. the WTELF of a jaw-dropping CLIFFHANGER.

And then I cursed.. I swore.. I had to stop myself from throwing my phone at the wall with the sudden-death revelation and cliffhanger. Yes.. yes, I knew it was coming, yes I knew I could only blame one person - myself.. but come on, it’s my favourite genre right now. He exudes power, he’s beautiful, charismatic, possessive, alpha Mafia Kingpin anti-hero with all the answers and, through challenges, drama, angst and some much needed character growth if Violetta’s going to survive in his world, she must grow up fast, prepare for war and protect her heart.

Worth a credit? Oh yes definitely.. old school Mafia traditions, fantastic world-building, a blossoming tension-filled attraction, action-packed drama, heat.. oh I could go on and on.. basically, it has everything I was looking for and Ms Reiss delivered so so much more. The narration was mainly by done by Emma from Violetta’s POV and she was great as usual and there were just a few from Antonio with Santino’s POV and he was good too.

Nothing Erotic about this story

Emma Wilder, (narrator) whisper and shaky voice for 10 hours. Antonio Amato, reads for almost 10 minutes out of 10 hours. There is nothing EROTIC about this book. Emma just wine and wine, whispers and shaky voice makes this book not worth the CREDIT I used for it...

WOW

First let me start by saying this is the first time I've written a review. Normally I just hit the starts and keep it moving. but I absolutely loved this book. I was on the edge of my sit. The narration was so good. Emma Wilder never disappoints and Antonio Amato did an awesome job. I could feel her anger and his ruthlessness and passion. They gave CD Reiss's great writing life.

Mesmerizing

CD Reiss one again left me wowed and amazed...her emotionally rich writing style will evoke all the feels. You will feel Violetta's hope and devastation. Santino's power and raw intensity. The character development and well built plot will keep you intrigued and enthralled. As the plot thickens there are more twists and storylines that keep you wondering. CD knows how to capture the reader’s attention and keep it there to the very end. I am looking forward to the next audiobook in this stunning.series. Emma Wilder and Antonio Amato delivered a breathtaking performance. They bring the characters and story to life from the pages to your ears. Definetly worth a credit! #AudiobookObsessionReviewer🎧

Just okay

The storyline was okay, and it kept my interest. However, the way the lead female character is written comes across like a whiny, petulant child. And the narration of the character only adds to that due to her high, whiny voice inflection that she uses through the majority of the book. Together, it made the female character annoying. The male lead character was more interesting, but because there were only a handful of chapters written from his perspective, the character didn’t have as much depth as he could have. The ending was a cliffhanger.

Mafia Arranged marriage drama

Not the author’s best but not terrible. The plot was ok but just very drawn out. Once again this a trilogy that with better editing would have made a fine duet. The cliffhanger for this part was very predictable and not too exciting. I wish the publishers would pay more attention to quality and less on greed and milking the reader for every dime. Both narrators sound too old for their characters of almost 20 and 33 so while the performances were good, the miscast sounded off.

Meh…

This book could’ve easily been condensed into about five hours. While the story is OK, most of it was just filler copy…I would completely zone out in 10 minutes later still know exactly where I was in the storyline

Great start to a trilogy!

This is a great beginning to a new series. I love Santino until the reveal at the end. Now I don’t know how to feel except that I’m devastated for Violetta.

Emma Wilder’s performance was nothing short of incredible! Violetta’s desperate situation came across loud and clear in her performance. But WOW oh WOW! Her performance as Santino was superb! She has always been one of the best female narrator who have an awesome male voice BUT here she does a mafia boss with an Italian accent!! Swoon! I’m in love with her male voice all over again.

This is the first time I’ve listened to Antonio Amato, but oh man his deep baritone does it for me. He was the perfect Santino! Hopefully there will be more chapters from Santino’s POV in the next 2 books so we get more of Mr. Amato’s performance.
