Rome, 1942.

Great story and fantastic narration
This is a tense WW2 spy novel full of suspense. It keeps the reader fully engaged and on his toes. It is well written and plotted, it has a wonderful setting and it’s rich in historical details. The pace is increasing throughout the book, picking up more and more. It’s refreshing to see that this book is centred around a woman, who becomes a spy for the Allies against the Fascist and the German Forces. The story is unique and the writing just flows, it is a truly enjoyable novel , highly recommended!
I the Audiobook version is amazing, the narration by Rachel Capel is brilliant and the way she handles the voices of the caracters is top notch. It was a great listen that kept me riveted. Great stuff!

Great read from an exciting new author
The beginning of the book interested me greatly as my father fought at Tubruk and was stationed in Cairo and Alexandria and he used to tell me about how he spent the war chasing Rommel up and down the desert, so it drew me into the story very quickly.
I found the story to be fast paced. All aspects of the human phyche can be found here. Love, hate, fear, cruelty and hope.
The characters are very believable and well written and the plot is well thought out. Even though Lucifer’s Game is a work of fiction I could imagine it happening in real life. I can imagine that many hours of research were carried out before pen was even out to paper.
As an avid historian, I knew very little of what happened in Italy during the war and Lucifer’s Game has left me wanting to find out more about this subject.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am looking forward to Ms Loggia’s next novel.

Great Story , amazing Audiobook
I enjoy WWII historical fiction and this one delivered on many fronts.
For a start, the plot is original, the book is very well written and I liked the storytelling a lot. It has memorable, strong characters, all determined to reach their goals and the writer did a great job in placing them into a well portrayed, true-life context. The mixing of fictional and historical events is well accomplished, and I felt able to roam the streets of Fascist Rome with Cordelia Olivieri. I particularly liked how the writer rotates her narration around the many points of views of all protagonists. I very much loved the first part of the book, where their different stories are progressively woven together, as I had the opportunity to fully understand their fears and motivations. The tension starts to build up since the very beginning, and if pages turned nicely in the first part, I motored through the excellent second part, a spinning swirl of actions until the very end. I also enjoyed the steamy scenes, which make the characters very human.
The Audiobook is great, I loved the narration paceby Rachel Capel and I was very much impressed with the way she handles all the voices of the multiple characters.
It is a job well done when there are so many different sorts of characters to turn your voice talents to, and you can manage this without resorting to caricature, which Capel does with aplomb.
A very promising and greatly enjoyable debut, highly recommended.

Shame about the Narrator!
I stuck this out because it was a good story, although I had to concentrate and several times had to skip back because I lost the gist due to the narrator's terrible performance. (I won't go into detail, just suffice to say 'Don't give up your day job Rachel Capell.')
I find it so refreshing to go back to a time before mobile phones and emails; to a time when subterfuge meant writing instructions in flour then sweeping it away - when a message had to go via mouth or a hand-written note - and men and women put their lives on the line for their country.
