1944, the Cote d’Azur.
Artist Marguerite Segal is recruited by British Intelligence into befriending Etienne Valade, a local priest. Her mission is to persuade him to pass on information from the high-ranking German officers who attend his church: evidence of their war crimes.
Connected by a passion for art, Marguerite and Etienne soon fall in love, but their association increasingly puts her at danger of violent reprisals. With his church frequented by Nazis, Etienne is a suspected collaborator, and distrust is high.

A reasonably good WW2 story
Initially l didnt think l could finish this but l returned to it and it was ok The female characters where pleasant enough perhaps a tad far fetched and unbelievable that they where all SOE Preferred Dorothy Unsure if the priest storyline warranted the entire book

Who can you trust
A must listen to audio book. It is set on the Cote d'Azur during the German occupation in 1944 just before the invasion by the Allies. The story describes a very different place to today's glamorous and fashionable setting.
It is a love story, with the backdrop of WW2, between an English artist recruited as a British spy and a french priest. There is constant threat to life not only from the German occupiers but from the local French people who are conflicted just to survive and it brings out the best or the worst in people under duress. Not everyone is who they seem to be and you do not always know whose side people are on.
Beautifully read and you must listen to the end.
