Summary

Seven strangers are invited to compete to win a clifftop mansion. The rules are simple: each contestant must have at least one hand in contact with one part of the house at all times. The last one to take their hand off, wins the house.

After 36 hours, a contestant is murdered. Soon they start to realise that it may not be the last person to leave the house that wins it, it may be the last person alive.

From the bestselling author of Find Us and Everyone in My Family Has Killed Someone comes a locked room mystery where the door is open, but no-one wants to walk through it.

Quite entertaining!

I quite enjoyed this, although the narration was a bit ropey. The plot went all Scooby Doo at the end by which point I couldn’t wait for it to finish! But it was free and passed a few hours of dog walking! 😊👍

Very good

Excellent play. Good acting and the story. Classic murder mystery. Gripping and darkly comic in a very subtle way.

Annoying voice

Like another reviewer, I too found the narration to be whispered Clint Eastwood adjacent. The idea of holding on to something to win it, is not new. Heard of similar elsewhere, and Sue Heck in the TV series The Middle did the same to try and win a car! Disturbing in this instance, however, and unsettling generally.

Entertaining

Aside from being a little bit ridiculous & farfetched, it was, nonetheless, enjoyable & intriguing.

I know competitions like this do happen in real life, but would anyone really go to such lengths? Maybe they would…you can't trust anyone these days.

Very Entertaining & Concise

Really good but more predictable than it should be. Stevenson’s a great author in the vein of Harlan Coben but his plots have similar tricks, so don’t be tempted to listen to another of his stories too soon or you won’t get the full benefit!

ok

Just about ok as a quick entertaining listen. It had a lot of promise to begin with but the story was rushed towards the end. To me it felt like the author just wanted to finish the story as quickly as possible, I think the characters and plot had so much more in them, it could have been double the length it was, with a more indepth and dramatic conclusion.

Not what I expected but more

Had me guessing and wondering and routing for the wrong ones and even when I was in the right path I stumbled and doubted myself and the story. But it never failed to impress or surprise and I’d check out another one of the author happily. Not sure my nerves would keep up with a feature length excitement normally short stories don’t pack this much twists into it. It feels good to try some authors and stories normally easily overlooked so I’ll go searching for more nice surprises.
