No one is good enough for her son…

As a single mother, Annie has an especially close relationship with her son, Ben. They have always been together. Just the two of them. So, when Ben brings home his mysterious beautiful new wife, Daisy, immediately Annie doesn’t trust her. Who is this woman who has taken her son away from her? And what is she hiding?

She’ll protect him with her life…

When Ben disappears, suddenly Annie and Daisy are all the other one has. Alone in Annie’s big, remote house, just the two of them, the tension is rising. And like any protective mother, Annie will stop at nothing to expose her new daughter in law, and the secrets she is hiding…

It got better!

It did improve but there were no likeable characters, which I need in a book. It was apparent what was happening. Somewhat convoluted and I was glad when it ended.

Great book

Listened to this during lockdown and thoroughly enjoyed it. I would listen for a couple of hours every day when I had time to myself. It was compelling listening and I looked forward to the next instalment each day.
Although predictable, I loved the way the characters revealed themselves, their histories and intentions.
I will definitely download the authors next book.
I would recommend this book.

Very enjoyable.

I really enjoyed this book and it was very easy to listen to. The plot was good and the narrators excellent. My only gripe is the misuse of the word ‘say’ used incorrectly when the word ‘sitting’ should’ve been used. But that’s just me, it’s one of my pet hates!

Muddled

I thought I’d like this book … but despite getting several hours in …I was beginning to struggle. Swapping between characters and the given voices not always matching who they were supposed to be I felt muddled about what was going on . I felt it was overly drawn out especially having guessed what had happened well before the ending.
Sorry…. Not a favourite that I’d listen to again .

A story to make you think

I would like to say first that I didn’t dislike the book. However it does not deserve five stars. The storyline is reasonably gripping but I felt the title was misleading.
Annie the mother of Ben is not a likeable person even when you find out about her past. It’s true you can feel sorry for her but then she does so much to make you hate her.
Ben is a character that is described by both his mother and wife as perfect. He’s not a horrible person but he is not perfect. I would have liked to have heard a chapter from his point of view.
Daisy the daughter in law has flaws and she’s actually aware of them. She keeps secrets from her past to herself but as far as I could tell she never actually lied about anything.
A lot of reviews have mentioned how the women go on about the bond between a mother and son being un breakable. It was something that I found annoying.
Still it was not the worst book but towards the end I did feel as though it was a very long story. Plus one of the chapters was repeated. I’m not sure if this was meant to happen but it stopped the flow of the story.

Slow stater

But if a slow starter, got interesting around chapter 60. Was a bit predictable. Was ok.
