Summary

She is pure light.

He dwells in the darkness.

Will she discover the power within before he snuffs out that beautiful light forever?

On the surface, everything about Kira Lockwood is a picture of perfection - an amazing best friend, a loving boyfriend, and a promising future in ballet. But beneath it all, she's plagued with unusual dreams and nightmares. And to make things more complicated, the man who haunts those very dreams has just moved in down the street. Their attraction is undeniable, but she struggles to understand their otherworldly connection.

Blake Michaelson is a handsome and powerful centuries-old warlock. He and his three brothers have been searching for one thing - Kira Lockwood. Though she doesn't know it, she is a descendant of the first Supra Virtutem, a witch with the ability to harness the ultimate power. He and his brothers have spent a lifetime hunting others like them and claiming their magic as their own. To ensure their immortality, Blake must complete the Order of Three: claim her body, take her blood, and end her life.

Kira can't ascend and harness her power until her 21st birthday, but her magic lives within her and her light recognizes the darkness. Will Blake complete his mission or will the power within her be enough to save her?

This book just completely floored me!

This book is so freaking good!!! Seriously heart pounding suspense, romance, & so many twists & turns. I was constantly on the edge listening & couldn’t wait to see what happens next. Trying to figure the world & magic out was intriguing. Can’t believe this is the authors first book!?! Can’t wait for the next book and the narrator was amazing.

A total mind-f*** but so worth it.

WHAT DID I JUST READ?!?!

Holy poop. This was so intense... Nothing is as it seems and the twists and turns in this book are masterfully written. I had a sneaking suspicion about the ending but only a vague piece. The book can drag a bit with all the over explanations of the scenery and whatnot but another part of me thinks that was done purposefully to f*** with the readers and lull them into a false sense of security!! Even though this book is about witches and warlocks "magic" isn't a huge component of the plot. Next book will probably be different because of the ending but if you're looking for magic battles just hold your horses till the next book.

Man, I will definitely be reading the next book when it drops. I cannot believe this is a debut novel.

After about 65% of the book things begin to heat up. Definitely expect some spice but it's fairly tasteful and quick.

Stina Nelson is the voice actor for this novel. She also did A Court of Silver Flames. She is absolutely fantastic per usual and you can always expect perfection from her.

If you like a teen sexy fantasy this may be amazing for you

It is not fair for me to put stars because this story is not my thing. I like something that is superbly well written and goes deep without all the explicit sexy details… but if you would like something contemporary and a little sexy then this would be your jam.

Meh

I was super hopeful for this book and realllyyy had to force myself to finish it. I didn’t mind the semi confusing way the story is written (it’s a huge favorite of the quick in, quick out chapter writing style) but it was long winded in sections it didn’t have to be, while not spending any needed time on others. I was a fan of the MC, and it didn’t give me a lot of reason to be invested in the romance.

Twisted but worth hanging in to the end

So I read reviews before deciding to give this listen a try. I have to agree with other listeners, there were times I thought of throwing in the towel. The ups and downs of the female lead about did me in but then I would remind myself that she is supposed to be 20 years old. She would be emotionally immature. After sticking with the story I realized that what I think the author failed to make clear was the constant emotional upheaval experienced more than a normal 20 year old stemmed from was the dark visitor in her dreams and his influence on her was subtly eroding her self image. I think better character development would have to have the main female character acknowledge her changes much more directly. There was a lot of hoping around too that got confusing.

The male lead also gave me quite an issue. How could I root for their love story to work when he is an admitted serial murderer and had plans to kill the female lead for her power? I had to stop and start several times during his rituals as they truly disturbed me. This is a book of fiction but good books pull you in because you can relate to the story in some way. I am a mother of two women just slightly older then our main female character and I had to pull back during certain parts to take a breather.

All in all I truly liked this book. I want to say I loved it but feel like that would make me a very disturbed person. I do recommend the listen and I think those who can remember this is a work of fiction will find this book if not enjoyable at least fascinating enough to have to get it the end just to find out what happens after all the dirty secrets and nasty deeds come to light.

My only complaint is the narrator. She reads too slow for me and over dramatizes but I increased the reading speed by .1 and that helped. She is not a favorite of mine and I always struggle when listening to books she has narrated.

Returning this book ASAP

Nope, not for me. Warlocks killing witches just so they can be immortal playboys. Seriously? I don't think I'm even three chapters or so into the book and I'm thoroughly disgusted. The main man is peeved because the main lady's boyfriend talked to her bad in a restaurant yet the entire time he plans on killing her. Um, no. This is not even what I would call good writing with that kind of glaring nonsense.

Twists and Turns

Nothing in this book is what it seems, so if you are a reader or listener who doesn’t play close attention you may get lost, because of all the twists and turns. This is a dark dark book as unlike other paranormal fantasy romances their is no hero good guys in the book. Since this is only book one of the trilogy so I will withhold my judgement if Blake and his brothers are redeemable. At this point, the author is going to have to do a lot to fancy footwork to redeem Blake and his brothers. LOL. Blake is a well crafted dark character but I don’t know all of his motives, as again twists and turns abound.
Kira unfortunately is the focus of Blake and his brothers. She’s a tormented young woman, having haunting dreams and is manipulated by those in her life, as she is being gaslighted by Blake and his brothers because they need her. I wish I could say she is missing clues but she really isn’t the manipulators have had hundreds of years to accomplish their goals.
I am intrigued to see where this series goes.
The narrator Stina Nielsen was absolutely fabulous! FANTASTIC! Superb!

Slow, slaying of women thumbs down

The main character seemed in a haze all the time. Women witches being killed for men’s gain. I could not finish. It’s too dark and annoying. Joyless.
